Two rebuilds...underway

Got her together!

Lapped the flywheel to the new crank, took off the stock exhaust, upped main jet to 280 and installed the repacked fmf powercore 2. Gonna do the heat cycles within the next day or so and do some plug chops to make sure the 280 is correct.
I would run 2 tanks of fuel at no more than 3/4 throttle before I touched that main circuit. Can't do plug chops unless you get into WOT. I wouldn't risk it.

Yeah, I'm going to do the proper heat cycles and go through that process and then run a tank or two of gas before doing the chops. Gonna run a 280 main to start off for now. That's probably a bit rich but better to be rich a little than lean...

No need to worry about being rich from a #280 main at 3/4 throttle, the main jet does not have any say in the mix until above 3/4 throttle.

If the needle is set on the middle clip you should be right to finalise the break in.

You could be running a #400 main and at 3/4 throttle with the needle too lean and still cook a piston.

If you worry that the needle setting is not correct it is possible to plug chop at 1/2, and 3/4 throttle openings.

Thanks for that info!

Well, got home from work and decided to put the flywheel and fmf exhaust on her and try to get her running. Threw a 270 in to start off in the carb cause it was either that or a 290,300, or 310. I had my stock bike running with a 260 on it with the same exhaust for about a year with no problem so I figured that would be fine for now. Anyway, got everything together and turned the gas on... took about ten kicks and she started up!!! Considering it's 1:14 in the morning I didn't want to let her run too long so as soon as I hit the gas and heard her rev up a little I shut her down. Gonna get up in the morning and do a few heat cycles!

So, did the heat cycles and made sure everything was properly torqued. Afterwards I too her for a spin to make sure she drives! Everything is perfect, just gotta adjust the carb, gas was coming out of the overflow. The flxoat should be at 21mm, right?

21 mm is fine.

Pre 03 = 20 - 21.5 mm.
Post 03 = 20.5 -.21.5mm.

If you are flooding it could be caused by varnish buildup in the needle seat, use a Qtip with some toothpaste upon it to polish the seat.

Yeah, I'm going to check the float and clean out the needle, see what happens from there! I'll let you know tomorrow. Planning on going riding after I get off of work.

Well, I went out for about three hours. Stopped every twenty minutes or so and rested the bike just so I didn't push it too hard. Never went above 3/4 throttle. The bikes running great!! Couldn't be happier with it right now. Came home and immediately checked the temp with my infared gun just to see how hot it was running. Temp on top near spark plug was 290 and down at the base nuts it was 220. Good temps?

Unless neutral was found on the plug chop run the clutch was held in way to long, a good recipe for welding the push rod to the ball.

One should stop as quickly as possible.

Everything I have ever read on this forum and any advice I have ever been given on plug chops is that you must get into 5th or 6th gear WOT, hit the kill switch, pull the clutch, and keep the gas held at WOT until you coast to a stop.

I don't understand what the difference between holding the clutch in for 10 seconds while I coast to a stop, and holding it in for 20 while I coast down a hill in the woods is...

If there is one, please explain. Because I've been riding the wrong way my whole life then

I held my clutch for about 10 seconds and it welded my rod. Had been riding an hour, so it was warm, but you might have problems with that now

Obviously I pulled the clutch....I didn't just let it coast to a stop...lol I may be dumb but I do have common sense...

Idk, this is my third time plug chopping and I've done it the same way, never had any problems.
