exactly what I want to do to my fenders man. looks awesome. what do you use to round off the edges after cutting?
Well, I started by taping the whole bike off with some black tape, I used black (electrical) tape so I had some movement left and right when I went around a bend.
Look it all over to make sure you like how it looks! On another bike I covered the entire plastic that I didnt want to get a better feel, you call though.
Then I took my $1 box knife and scored where the tape was, ensure that you have the plastic secured to the bike.
Start by scoring the original cut over and over and then you can slowly fold the plastic over (you can see the side turn white from stretching) and then just cut through it.
Once all the plastics were cut I just took the knife and very carefully created angle on the top and bottom of the edge. Once this is done its easier shave off any areas that are not perfect.
Once all cuts are made and you are happy with the shape take some 220 grit sand paper ( be sure NOT to get the top, it will take the shine right out!) and clean up the edges.
On a few corners I used the box knife to cut the 90* corner down, then cut the two 45*'s down, used the 220 to finish it off smooth.
Lastly I picked up a heat gun at Harbor Freight cheap, set it to high and carefully went over all the edges and corners, you can watch the 'white' disappear, don't get it too hot though and watch out when you heat sertain areas as they may the support for the fender!
Thats it, I took WAY more time that I had to just because I was bored and had nothing else to do. I don't think the rear fenders are the same behind the heal gaurds, I was tired and it was 4am but I'm gonna take a look tomorrow.
Thats it, sounds like alot but $20 for the heat gun, $1 for the knife, and $3 for the sand paper is alot cheaper that aftermarket plastics!
PS-If you use a heat gun, don't hit ANY stickers, it will boil them off in seconds, but works good to remove them!!
If you have any more questions shoot me a PM, this was easy as cake!
