Hi my 2000 blaster is blowing white smoke. So after doing some reading I replaced the crankshaft seals. The oil is still disappearing fast and I have air blowing out of the vent tube when it is running and oil fill cap. The only way I can get it running is by pouring gas in the spark plug hole. I have not done a leak down test yet but I don't think one is needed. It sounds like I will have to split the cases. Let me know what you guys think.

I would do the leak down test before splitting the case. You may have damaged or installed the seal wrong. If you don't know where the leak is, it makes it harder to fix.

It could be the case but the leak down test will determine weather or not it's the crank seal you just installed. It would suck to split the case and put it back together to find out it was the seal not installed correctly.

I agree a leak down test is a good idea but it is burning so much oil so fast that I don't think it is the seal.

How long before you got it/rebuilt it did it eat a piston?

well the only thing I have done is replace the seals. It has never stopped smoking from when it started at the dunes and quit running. I bought this last fall and i have never rebuilt the top end. So may be I lost some of my piston And poked a hole in my crankcase. I will have to crack it open and see

It's REALLY unlikely that you lost enough piston to break the crankcase without noticing it or having a catastrophic failure of the top end but I have heard of stranger things....

When you take the top end off to peer down in there, if you can't see anything at all, pour some premix gas in there and see if it runs back out... If it's a broken crankcase it'll run out faster than you can pour it in almost. If it's a seal, the level will go down to the middle of the crankcase and then stop.

well I tore the whole thing down today and sure enough I have a huge hole in the crank case. It is mostly on the stator side but the other side was cracked. The exhaust side of the piston broke off. So now I have to try and find another case or weld this one up. The hole is like 3/4 x 3/4 big so welding might not be an option.

That's still repairable even with a large hole. The trouble is getting the jagged edge around the hole to take fresh filler rod. Once that layer is done, then moving up from there is a matter of just continuing to add filler as you go.

here are some pics of the carnage CIMG2394.jpg
