Hi,
A friend of mine got a 91' blaster and after we got it running, the gears in the transmission seems to shift and shift but doing nothing. the shifter goes up or down making the click sound but not really engaging gears. We just replace the clutch plates and the set up seems complete (rods, ball). What you guys think it might be?

you did not line up the 2 dots on the pressure plate and clutch basket, must be done or the clutch plates will not engage, common mistake and easy fix
theres a dot on the face of the pressure plate, and one on one of the tangs of the basket,
and the rod will need adjusted for the new plates also, loosen nut, turn in till it just touches the ball, back off half turn and tighten nut, this should be done with the cable off, and that pointer on the actuator arm pointing to the corresponding notch on the case

Was the clutch adjusted properly when it was replaced? Why was the clutch replaced in the first place? Do you know any of the history of this quad? When was the last time it went into gear?

The blaster transmission is actually fairly simple. The problem is getting to it, the cases have to be split in order to access it.

You can remove the clutch cover and take the pressure plate and clutch out of the clutch basket. Try turning the inner hub by hand and see if it tries to drive the wheels then. If it does, you know the transmission is working, it's the clutch that's not.

Actually we did all that when we put the new clutch, when we got it running everything was working good, then it started to get harder to shift into gear, like just the first 3 gears, sometimes we have to double shift them to make the gears engage. That's why i thought about the tranny going bad. It's like you keep shifting and nothing and suddenly engage :-/. Thanks for your help.

could be the shift star...bent shift forks...shift shaft or the clutch...u need to pull the cover and go to work

We got the atv in not running condition, but we did the basics and started running and riding it. Then it started to get hard to shift, we need to double shift to get the gears to engage, that's why i think the tranny is failing. I will do what you suggested about turning the hub with my hand and see what is happpening. Thanks for the help

Make sure shifter isn't slipping on shaft. Inspect shift shaft, is claw tight on shaft? Is claw worn out? Is claw adjusted correctly (centered)? Shift star tight to drum shaft? All of this can be inspected with clutch off. What kind of oil are you using? I:I BTW, I wouldn't ride until problem is fixed or you may do further damage. :o
