you could do some of your own port work just open up the intakes and astuff not hard i did it to mine and felt it..
 
negligence was the reason you had a prolem with your quad.. when the compression started to taper off it ws time for a top end.. depending on the shape of the piston you may have been ableto get away with just rings.. so what could have been a $50 fix now became a $150 fix and you lost some meat in your cylinder.. it's called preventative maintenence...
 
Yeah I might want to invest in a diy bore kit.
a what? what exactly is a DIY bore kit? there are two ways to bore a cylinder like yours.. a hone with very aggresive stones (thats the hilljack wrong was to do it) and a boring bar... which is the correct way to bore your cylinder.. then you hone the cylinder afterwards.. whcih give teh cyl wall a nice finish for wearing in the rings. it also holds oil on the cyl wall.. in theory...
