toomey vs fmf

Royalt I want low end power. I don't care about a lot of speed I want a lot of power. That's why a 4 stroke sounds like the way to go. I'm not saying that my blaster won't do a idle wheelie in 1st or 2nd but in the higher gears or even third, I want it to hit immediatly like a 4 stroke would. Mine just kinda has a bogging sound then about half throttle or so boom the powerband kicks in hard but I want it right when I hit the gas in the low rpms

you need to jet and tune... the potential is there... id take my fmf megamax over a hmf purely for the tuning capabilitys with the megamax, and the tone.. my 200x sounds like a 400ex cruisn down the river.. and alot of the newer pipes are to long for what i need, my 200x pulls from idle tell 7500-8k before it starts to fade off..

you wont get arm ripping power on a blaster unless you got mroe than a pipe carb and reeeds

that is def what you should do. trade for a 4 stroke. obviously can't handle the work that goes into a 2stroke. have you even done the timing advance yet? it's in the diy section. it is a good power gain

I'm 16 how am I suppose to handle it? I don't have money so how am I suppose to make it better besides trading? No I haven't done the timing advance cuz I don't know anything about it or that it would help me

x2

Spend some FREE time getting your Blaster dialed in and then if you're still not happy with it move on to something else to ride.

I suspect you'll find the low-end power you're searching for with some fine tuning of your carb.

Good luck!

i have the carb dialed in perfectly. i had the local yamaha shop jet it and run it til it was right. then when i got it back i put a new plug in it and ran it myself and when i did a plug chop it looks perfect. i am running a 330 main.

what size pilot jet are you run most of the time they dont need change for the small mods you have done or like what i have simalar to your set up. i got killer low end power on mine but my fmf is more for lowend than a toomey is. did you check the pilot jet thats what could be cause you to have no power off idle ect. did you try playing with the air screw ? also whats the compresion like and air filter when was it cleaned last ect. all of this could be the problem or part of it. if your not happy with the blaster i dont think your going to be happy with a 300ex or a rappy 350 imo but good luck.

the compression is beautiful i just got done rebuilding it in sept. still pushing around 140. the pilot is stock. i have the needle on the 3rd gorve cuz thats where 03 and up are put by the factory. i myself never messed with the air screw but the yamaha shop did when they had it. the air filter was just cleaned last weekend as a matter of fact. i just want low end power and i think i either gotta get a fmf pipe or trade it for a 4 stroke. i want power! lol. idc about speed just power, pure power. it has beautiful power up top but i want it down low too. like a 4 stroke.

head work, and porting, a builder can match your head and porting to give you a lower 'hit' like a mx port

Then it sounds like you're maxed out at with your current deal. ^^^^^^ is you're next option with the blaster, and whether you do the head work or go for a 4-poke, either costs $.

If it were me, I'd keep riding the sh!t out of the blater and in the mean time, get a job, and save your bones for that 4-dog you really think you want ;). Then you'll have two beasts in the barn to give you options.

I just up'd my stocker to no air box lid, fmf fatty, jetting, etc. It was a noticable improvement, but I could see possibly getting tired of it if I was riding all the time. But since I drive 2-3 hours to ride, I'm happy to be "ripping" on my blasty whenever I can. Even with my mods I didn't have the punch in soft sand and coming out of tight turns I'd really love to have.....but it works for me for now.

Anyway, it may be you're just ready to move on to another bike...which is cool. I was hoping my lady would have tak'n a liking to the blaster more so I could have got something a little bigger. But ultimately I'm in the camp that loves the simple, reliable, cheap to upgrade, and easy to ride.....and it doesn't get any easier than throwing the blaster around.

have you tried dropping a tooth on the front sprocket?

i run an fmf and noticed the same. my bike seems to sorta drop off in 3rd then come alive again in high 3 low 4. needle position will change this fo sho. also i went to a 13/40 ratio and it seemed to help alot.

as a rule of thumb if the bike drops off at all while accelerating, give it more fuel. if the jets are right, move the needle up; or punch it, whatever you preferI:I

oh yeah i forgot dealer mechanics do unfalable work and never make a mistake. it couldn't be a jetting issue because a yamaha mechanic did the work. quit wastin money on mechanics and learn about your machine by doing work yourself

exactly. just for reference by your age i was rebuilding car engines and trannies, and working in a shop doing small engine work and light fab work on my own. there are 13-14 year olds on here that can do this work, you can too, and with VERY basic tools. this isnt rocket science, a little reading, determination, and just taking the incentive to learn what you're doing will take you a long way.

140 with the stock head i thought stock should be around 125 or 120. you could try messing with the air screw see what happens could get better and solve the problem or could get worse never know. you can get your head milled and rechambered for more lowend powerr and i heard its a realy great mod.
ps had yamaha jet my bros blaster way back before i knew anything about it ect. guess what it was waaaayyyy rich sooooooooooooooo think about that. tell me yamaha cant make a mistake ask awk about having a yamaha mechinc touch his motor never again will anything of mine go to a dealer.

ok low where is ur needle positioned in ur carb? and im running 13/40 gearing. next scott im not saying that because yamaha did it that its perfect im saying that it is because i plug chopped it when i got it back and it was perfect. also dont give me sh** about that i said yamaha cant make a mistake. you have to know the guy who did my carb anyway. he tunes carbs for drag racers around here and hes known for his work. everyone that i know of that has a racing motor they take the carb to him to let him work his magic. brandoz im sorry i dont have the ability to learn everything u did when u were my age. i dont have people to help me or teach me how to do things. i dont have the same oppurtunities you do. next hudack same thing i said to scott, im not saying they cant make a mistake, but you have to know the guy who did mine and that i checked it when i got it back with a NEW plug. next, as ive said many times i know i can do things to my head and all that but thats not cheap and my family and myself dont exactly have money to just throw around. i got my blaster the way it is now because of my grandma who had a ton of money but she has passed so....

there's a wealth of info here to help you through, you just need to take the time to gain the hands on experience. that's where you'll learn 90% of the stuff is actually DOING it
