Ok so i bought a 87 250x thats been raced out 400ex arms works shocks extended swingarm widened axle, rims. Its pretty pimp. I bought it knowing the engine was cheesed. The guy said it smokes and needs a new top end. He said it was built in california and is around 350cc and will outrun raptor 660s.
cool. I was pretty much buying it for all the extra goodies on the frame. 600 bux I got it for.
This thing has been a freaking nightmare. Take it apart and the piston has ground into cylinder wall, no problem easy fix. Well I go to find a piston to fit it and get a 12:1 comp wiseco and go to put it on after getting the cylinder honed and the wrist pin is a 20mm ,stock it should be 17mm. crap. Well I couldnt find any piston to fit the rod that has a 20mm pin. So I buy a stock crank/rod assembly and it fits that wrist pin. So I had to give up the stroker crank that was in it so I lost alot of ccs right there.
No problem I could settle for a slower bike, it really dosent bother me that it wont kill raptors now.
Put it all back together and notice the piston ring gap was a little excessive after the hone job. It was already bored out to the max of 76mm so I just said to myself well I'll just ride it till it loses compression and smokes to much, no big deal Ill get at least a year out of it.
Put it all back together had to get new roker arms and a new performance cam and stuff.
Fire it up after putting it together and it smokes a little no big deal. After letting it idle for about 5 minutes I shut it off and restart it. It idles a bit and the the spark plug blows out of it. Son of a biotch.
The threads are cheesed. Now I got it apart and are ordering a new cylinder and had to get a helicoil set for the head. I noticed on the piston the exaust vales hit the 12:1 piston and left a small quarter moon indention in the new piston. I noticed this on the old piston but just thought since the rocker arms were totally mashed that the valves were floating but It might have bigger exhaust vales in it so now I'm looking at getting a new head.
This thing is killing me. This is the only and last time I'm buying a broke down atv. lol =))
