Like the title says guys I been itching for a quad the past few days especially with summer coming along. So i been fooling on craigs and i seen a 250x.
I know this is a 2 stroke forum believe me i been around here long enough to know that.
But I'm gonna be avoiding 2 strokes for a while because I dont feel like paying the extra coin for oil these days maybe when prices start to float back down.
So i'm looking at this 1987 honda trx 250x i figure its a good deal if its in good condition, anyone know anything about them besides that they are basically a 300ex

They are slow, but fairly quick through trails since they have such a low center of gravity. They ride really low. They do have a rather "mechanical" feel to them. The engine isn't potent at all in slow form, but has more low end torque than a Blaster obviously. Nice quads for the money as long as they are in good shape and don't need any work. Where are you located in Ohio? There was a guy with a Z400 for $800 in SE Ohio......even I was contemplating getting it. It has a "gear" broken in it that I think is on the tranny since the engine supposedly runs fine, but if it's a simple fix, that's a good deal.

I'm in NE Ohio near youngstown so i guess the southeast wouldnt be too bad of a drive but there could be more than just 1 gear broken in it so i dont think thats worth the potential money pit risk thanks for the info though man.
Ya i figure it wont be too hopped up or anything but as long as it can get me reasonably through things I'll be happy with it

they are great quads for the trails, and from what i've heard, you can put a 300ex top end on them because it's supposed to be the same motor and the 300ex was like the 250 but with a big bore kit (this is what i've heard, not positive if it's true or not).

Actually you are pretty much correct on that, they are pretty much the same quad i believe the 300ex just had a bigger bore and different compression ratio i think
