I broke the key way shaft in my shift drum so I replaced it today. I have installed the clusters and drum with the forks in the right postion. The key way slot on the drum is in the 1 o'clock position. When I put the two cases back together with the shift shaft should I be able to go through all the gears or do I need to put something else back on. I don't want to seal the cases back up until I know that the trans is in right. Can anyone help please????

Pictures would help a lot. Im not sure what you mean by keyway shaft. Your Motor should shift without oil in it but it will be very hard.
to test it out just put the cases together and test it by turning the drum along with the shafts and it should pop into each gear... your best bet would to be is to mark a spot with a sharpie whre neutral is then go from there cuz i gotta do the same when my drum gets here
