Stock crank to plus 3 or 4?

Ok so what is the difference between a stock crank and like a +3? i know it adds 3 hp but like is there a size difference, it just didnt make sense in my head becuase it cant be longer or it would smack the piston into the head? if someone has pics comparing the two that would be cool
 
+3 does not add 3 hp. +3 and +4 refer to the amount of stroke difference between a stock crankshaft throw (57mm) and +3 (60mm) and +4 (61mm).

The difference in power output is due to the slightly higher displacement of the engine and the placement of the ports after the stroker crank is installed and the top end has been ported to match.

Simply installing a stroker crank won't net you much horsepower but a top end ported for the stroker crank can.

If you get a +3 stroker crank, vito's includes a spacer plate to move your top end up 1.5mm so the piston will not hit the head. The hotrods +4 stroker crank has to have the head "cut" with an inset of 2mm to keep the piston from hitting the head.
 
Hey, just be careful. It sounds like you've already caught it.

It's a nasty one....VERY hard to get rid of. Antibiotics won't touch it.... it laughs at the strongest antivirals medicine has to offer. Rest and relaxation won't even begin to slow it down. The only thing that helps is giving into it.

Don't we all! You can never get rid of it...it just keeps growing on you. You try to forget about it, but it is always in the back of your head. And as soon as you think about it one time, magically you are missing 150 bucks and your blaster is in pieces in the garage and a UPS guy shows up with a somewhat heavy box with the rest of your now modded motor in it :D
 
@ Prime: or you meet some dude at a gas station halfway between your two houses and works and you're missing some 20's out of your wallet and then you quad is sitting out in front of the garage with the front suspension hanging apart for like the 40th time and a bunch of welding to do AGAIN so you can go riding.

Somehow the mod bug is inescapable...

You know you're sick when you almost hope your crank goes out (without much damage I:I) because a 3mil is only $20 more than stock. Then when I tear it apart I can do more port work. When I see something here and go out with a flashlight to look at the A-arms or swinger, and think about it, then look on E-gay or CL for parts.

Only advantage is that at my age I won't suffer as long :o

BTW, on average how many CCs does a 3mil add?
