stator cover ???

hello all

i had a question about the stator cover gasket i have a broken stator cover im assuming that the chain snapped at some time in the past and the previous owner just left the cover alone, now to my question while im doing my crank seals i notices the gasket for the cover is a little chewed up should i get the new gasket or is it ok to leave as it is, other then stopping water is there really any other reason for the gasket.

keep dust out of the magneto and stator. also if water does get in there that thing will rust like crazy. just a get a gasket they are cheap and will save you in the long run

x2.. gaskets are cheap motor repairs are not lol
