I just got a set of used works shocks from a member on here and the paint on the springs is all sort of chipped up and I was wondering how I could remove the springs and maybe send em out to get powdercoated or w.e?

depending on the amount of preload, its fairly easy, there are 2 ways.

1. at the top on the body... the spring retainer ring will push down revealing a retaining ring, simply pop the ring out of the groove and move it up, this will make taking the bottom part much easier.

2. at the bottom... remove the bushing spacers, , next cmpress the sping a bit using a big screwdriver in the opening of the spring retainer ring. the retainering ring will have to be lifted a little and then it will slide out sideways and the springs will slide right of the bottom

be carefull you keep track of the locations of the cross over rings, shouldnt be two hard considering you probably only have a dual rate setup. if your having difficulty compressing the springs a trck is to use a big open end wrench with a rag wrapped around it so you dont gall the shaft. slide it in the the spring just bellow the body, twist the spring as far as you can, using it like a screw against the wrench compressing the spring against the wrench, when you can't twist anymore, pull down on the wrench compressing the spring further. you should be able to push the top retainer down easily now and pop the circlip retainer up.
