if i spray my frame does it need to be all heat resistant paint because of bits near the engine or is it ok ? and do i need to spray my front drum hubs with heat resistant paint ?:-/

Are you talking about spray paint? Most people just use regular rattle cans if they are spray painting the frame. I don't think you need to worry about heat, really. The engine mounts are only on the cases and they don't really get HOT when the engine is running. The cylinder is what gets hot.

The good thing about heat resistant paint is that it needs to be cured, and is tough to get off after cured. You could spray your frame with it, and then run a heat gun or even a torch over the paint so it cures. Stuff is surprisingly tough

awrite but im gonna prime it and all i cant seem to find hammerite light green paint do you know of any paint that dont require primer or undercoat ? and do you need to paint brake drums with heat resistant paint ?

Primer or undercoat is used to provide a key for the finish coat to adhere to.

The prime coat must be fully abraded to allow the finish coat to adhere to help stop chipping.

Unless you are going to ride like a bat out of hell on a downhill slope, I do not think you need heatproof paint on brake drums.

Rubbed back with abrasive paper, steel wool, or other abrasive method, paint will not bind to a smooth unabraded surface.

Doin what's blaaster advised will definately ensure the paint takes to the frame and stays on ... I would also suggest that you try to use a rustoleum paint as this will stop as well as prevent any rust. I'm not sure on the color variety they offer but a good quality paint should be priority ! If you cant find a specific color you want from a quality paint/brand then I would choose another color. Remember the paint job will only look as good as the paint that your using.

You can buy rustoleum not in a spraycan but in a paint can and then get a kit that will spray like a spray bottle. If you do it this way they can mix the color at a paint shop even a house paint supply shop to the color you like.

yeah i seen green on ebay 2.5l for £20 pound rustoleum stuff with primer and top coat and protective coat all in one what kind of kit should i get ? wouldnt be spending more than £50

I dont remember how much they cost, but also I used them in the 80's and 90's so I am sure they are a lot more now, but you should be able to get them at a paint store...its comes with a co2 cartridge and a jar to put the paint in and a few hoses and tips. I think they were like 40 bucks then for the kit, But I dont really remember. call a paint store and ask if they got them in your area.

Might get to messy as it might not sure though but might spray to heavy. Its really depends on the tip you use, since its just a frame I would get the co2 or can cartridge type. I will ask my brother when he gets home on thanksgiving what the proper name of it is. And what you need it for. The type I am talking about sprays like a can but uses your own mixed paint of any type oil or latex base. Its sprays fine and will look very nice. But you will need to put on multiple coats.

1 more thing self priming paint is not a true primer, unless its main purpose is to prime. But you can tint your primer to the color of the paint you wish to put on, this will save coating time.

It is a good idea to use a primer of a slightly lighter colour than the finish coat.

It helps to see the coverage of the finish coat.

Remember that if you use multiple coats you need to use the wet on wet method, otherwise you have to let each coat to dry and cure and abrade the surface prior to the next coat.

also what blaster said about the tin, for the primer, so you know what its called its called a half tint when you ask them to tint it. I also sent you a pm about cheap car grade spray cans I think they had your color.
