Hey Guys,

I just bought a totally stock 89 and frankly the engine sounds like a sick, raspy, sewing machine. I've never had a Blaster with the stock exhaust before so I've never had one this quiet. Is it really supposed to whir and click so much? I def hear the reeds but there is a lot of other noise too.

The funny thing is it runs like a champ. Plenty of power, etc. Whaddya think?

Go to youtube and look up stock blasters. Counterbalencer could be jacked up, does it vibrate more then normal?

OK Guys. Thanks, that's about what I thought it should sound like. Mine sounds MUCH worse. I'm thinking bearings but I'm surprised it runs so well since you'd think rings would go out before bearings.

Hmmm, good point. I might have to post a vid. It does kinda knock a bit as well. Not a detonation or preignition type knock. Something very physical.

Ok, well I decided to just tear it apart. I kinda wish I had recorded it first, it was kinda funny.

It ended up having bad crank bearings. Makes noise even turning it by hand (with the jug off). I didn't know they could be that bad without seizing. There was also alot of play in the rod bearings so maybe it had a knock too. I also comp tested it - 65lbs. Still ran like a raped ape, all things considered. Just shows you what a tough design those old motors are.

Luckily, when I bought it, it came with a box o' parts including another motor! I combined parts from both and after shaving the head a bit I put it back together. Hopefully I can start it tonight!
