Something just not right...

If the reed cage was loose, But tighten now that should have resolved the issue.
Out of curiosity were is the air screw set to, Has that changed? Idle jets clog easy also since their the smallest jet in the carb so it couldn't hurt to blow air down to the bowl thro it. just my thoughts.

The cage itself wasn't loose just two of the bolts took a 1/5th of a turn when i checked them. My airscrew is at 2 turns out. The pilot is clean, I just had the carb apart less than two rides ago, when I did the plug chops.

I hate problems that torcher the mind:( I have heard of the gasket bonding the cases to gether acting like a reed valve. flopping to let $h!t in but not letting it out. see if you could do a vacuum check on it to validate or nullify that possibility. That would be the next best guess.

instead of leak down test you put a vacuum to the motor, same theory different way of the pressure on the seals. Will need a vacuum gauge thou. Auto part stores may have them to rent.

i found the troubles...........................

these are from a weedeater or small chainsaw, hahahahaaa

no seriously, tear that carb apart, again, 2 rides ago is too long ago to rule that out
check all jets, check the float level, that hesitation on them hills had me wondering that on the mountain, hows the petcock < supplyin enuf fuel ????

and dont rule out an electrical problem, they like to only show themselves under a load, as this sounds just like what 305 had goin on at busco last year, turned out to be the plug cap, but check the wire too

and yes to the vacuum test, thats actually the better way to do it, and is how ken oconnor does his leak tests
same applies to the seals, if bad, they will be sucking in, not out, as a pressurized leak test does

EDIT: I forgot about the high idle so all the stuff below might be off base. So now my question is how is the gas flo from the tank
That plug is perfect..exhaust side should be darker. I,m gunna go with electrical....woodruff key or the stator is starting to give out. I had one that would only work with high rpms, the rest of the time it was hard to start and ran like shizzit. Just a guess, but the plug looks great, good compression and no airleaks...there aint much left lol oh hows the ground

water and electricity don't mix well either, But you still had the same symptoms after tightening 2 bolts? No change or the change was minor? Like slowly fading away never to resurface till you forgotten about it kind?

DUH! OK I can do that have done that before... Results held 10in vaccum for 20 minutes! I call that good!

YOu somebitch!! BWAHAAAAAAAAA, In all seriousness, I just went through the electrical system, found maybe one thing, not sure if it would cause it, but the orange wire that goes on the coil was rubbing the frame and looks to me to have been possibly made contact a couple times ?? I tried to snap a photo but the lighting sucks.

I took the bowl off and jets out, carb cleaned then air compressed just for the hell of it. The float level is-16mm exact bro. I'm good at checking that!

Gibby-
Gas flow is awesome I have a banshee petcock to match the larger Keihin, I just went down to check the flow and all good- steady stream to the carb well to the floor I missed the bucket! Dammit!

Hmmmm Flywheel, the reason i say that is I found two allen bolts loose on the flywheel/stator cover, maybe I'll take that sucker off and have a peek. I guess I have to take the flywheel off to actually check the key?? Or is there a secret way?

I'm so happy that someone confirmed my plug looks, I too like the coloring but wasn't sure about the two different colors! I feel like a jet-i- master now! Sike!

Nah bro, I haven't ridden the quad since I pulled it in the garage and ripped it apart. I hope to get that 400ex shock on this week too and button her up, take her for a rip and see what 's up.

orange wire?? Hummmm that maybe the gremelin you found there. What EVER YOU DO DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT LET THAT SUCKER GO!!!!!!

I ment the Gremelin, They're nasty little buggers. They love tormenting peps and the bikes they ride.LOL just be sure to bottle the little focker put it on the mantle as a trophy of the gremelin that got caught. :))

Hell ya! Lock and loaded! At least the loadded part i get!!!

what pecentage ethanol is in your gas i was using sunoco gas then ran out and put fresh sheetz 93 in and it ran just like that without the bucking i think sheetz has like 15% ehtonal in it

i also just noticed the new decal on my local sunoco's pumps,
it now has 10% ethanol.....WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
