Took the blasty out for a ride in-between raindrops today, and ran good for the first hour. Then started, to loose power especially down low, I couldn't pull out in second gear no matter how much gas i gave it it would stall- and when I stop for a quick break the idle would get high then go back to normal, sounded like it was knocking too- also when I was cruzin say in fourth about half throttle she would start buckin a little when ya let off the gas. Was about 1/2 hour a way from the trailer, so decided to go back early as to not screw anything up. Couldn't go too slow as there are some pretty large climbs we had to do. So I babied it as much as possible, back to the car.

Get it home check compression 150psi three times in a row at 11 kicks.
decided I better do a leak test as the high idle is classic of that, and sure -enough she has an air leak. It's a big leak as it went from 7psi to three psi in about 30 seconds. I checked to make sure my exhaust block off is sealing good as that has been the issue in the past all good there, reed cage two bolts loose, not finger loose but was able to get about 1/5 of a turn from them. Ran out of soap water, and will finish testing tomorrow as 5am comes early.

My question is could a huge leak cause all of these problems? ( High rpm change at idle, Low end power loss, bucking when deceleration, Knocking, maybe pre detonation?) BTW -im running a B9 plug. However I don't know what pre detonation sounds like any one have a sound clip of it on a blaster?

I know I could fix the air leak and go riding and see how she runs but if I may have other issues, I don't want to damage anything.

this is how my blaster was running before it blew. but i just thought it was bad gas. i ran 87 in it because it was all i had after running 2 gallons of turbo blue for a break in and then switching to 93. it only ran abou 1/4 tank on 87 but it seen enought to f**k something up

Well dude, fix your airleak and rerun your test. See what happens.

If you want to really be anal, pull your carb/reedcage off, and pull your exhaust flange off, and shine rotate the engine till the piston is up, and shine a light in both sides and you will be able to see the piston. Look for scarring.

Well i run 93 all the time. That's one area i don't cheap out. I'm just hoping it's all airleak issue!

With good compression, and a good color plug, I don't think looking at the piston is necessary. I'll just have to find the leak and see what happens.

whaaaaat, i thought only v-forces caused airleaks, and rad valve were the cure all solution to that, lol

seal her up and run it, the compression says all is good in there

water mightve gotten in the airbox. that happens alot when driving in wet conditions. so IMO, air leak, and water in the airbox. that explains the bog and all. happened to me one time. i started her up open the seat and took a cloth blocking the air while i toy with throttle to force air IN sucking what ever was in the jets clear, water, dirt etc. and it works all the time

Well it's not the reed cage area, or the case halves, or the head, or the cylinder base gasket, nothing coming out of the vent> You know what is next! F'n main seals, probably the flywheel side as i'm not burning any tranny fluid. Will report back when i find out WTF!

Found my air leak, well not a real airleak, but why it was failing leak test, My airleak tester I have is when i first made them with all threaded fittings and no glued joints, so i never thought of checking the tester! DUH! I used one of my new ones and booyah held 7psi for 20 minutes now!

But now I am stumpped.

What the hell all of the sudden is causing me to have these symptoms vvvvv?

( High rpm change at idle, Low end power loss, bucking when deceleration, Knocking, maybe pre detonation?)

Now it was running great for some time, even had it up the mountain twice, ran good. I do remember, having a bit of hill climb problems in 1st and second, but otherwise great.

So anyone care to take a guess at what could be the issue? Again, 150psi compression, no airleaks. Reeds are perfect, took the cage out just to be sure. Pics belowvvv

Sparkplugs (oneside darker than the other?) why?

Just realized this is the only pics i ever taken of my Intake! BTW looks brand spanking perfect!vvvv

Homie, no water in or on the filter or box I have a lid and outerwares cover for it! I had to take it off anyhow to get the carb off. Was all dry and clean! If only it was that simple.

I just heard something on the news, They have switched to the "summer grade" gas, wonder if that has anything to do with it? Probably not that simple either.

I don't know why I think it's a jetting thing, but Something is telling me that.
