Hello. Ive been recommended here to see if you knowledgeable people can help :-/

I (think I) have a TZR125 engine. The problem is it smokes really bad and doesnt rev past around half of what it should do. It is really oily with oil literally dripping out of the exhaust.

Im using pre-mixed fuel - 32:1

Ive just replaced the gear side crank oil seal with a genuine Yamaha one.

Its got a Dellorto VHST carb, which I have tried jetting from 180 - 230, with the same result :(

Any help would be appreciated :)

Oil should be fine.

I am not familiar with Dellorto carbs so unable to comment on jetting.

Have you tried plug chops.

It is normal for oil to continue emitting from the exhaust for a while after a seal failure due to oil build up.

Have you leak tested?

I don't have a leak tester unfortunately :(

Plug is really (dripping) oily.

THERE IS GOING TO BE SOME OIL STILL IN YTHE CASE FROM THAT LEAKY SEAL!

That seal you replaced could still be leaky if you have not tested it.

It really would pay to get a leak tester they have saved countless motor deaths.

Had to do a search to find out what you have :o

Is this still in a motorcycle?
Is the powervalve functional, pinned open, or closed?
Is that Dellorto carb stock? Didn't see any mention of it, but the bike was made froma collection of Italian parts, tho I thought the Dell was spanish made.

Never realized how many bikes Yammy made that never made it to U.S.

A TZR 250 would be killer in a Blaster, kind of a baby Banshee.

Forgive my ignorance, how would I check if the power valve is open or closed? The control for it is not on the engine so it will be pinned one way or the other manually.

Still fitted in the bike...

At some point the carb must have been changed, I think it used a Mikuni as stock.

From what I have found that came with a Mikuni carb. That might be part of your problem. YAMAHA TZR125 TZR 125 1988 - 1990 Replacement Carb | eBay

As to the power valve, yours would have two cables going to a wheel that are operated by a servo. You would have to pull the ex pipe and look to see if the ex port looks restricted (PV closed) or wide open. If it's wide open you will have NO bottom end power and will be hard on clutches and a beech to ride.

Dare say that Blaaster and I may be the only ones who may have even heard of a Dellorto carb before.
