should I get a 250R?

So Im trying to decide between getting a 250R and selling the blaster, or modding the blaster. The problem with modding the blaster is that it will never come close to a 250R, let alone to this 310R I found. Heres what it is.
Lone Star Racing Chassis, A-arms.
CT 310 cylinder
Full Bore front fenders
Ohlins Shocks all around with resies
He wants $3200

I figure the frame is $2000, a-arms $700, shocks $700, swingarm $600, CT310 $900, plus a ton of other stuff, so all that added together is $4900 alone...

Here are some pics let me know what you think

I'd buy it. Research the 250R guy's forums first to get info on the parts he added on, especially the Laeger's frame to see if there are any issues with it and just general info on it. Other than that, I'd go with it. The 310 kits are nice setups. I've seen an ESR 310, but never a CT, but I imagine they are close to the same. He looks like he takes care of the quad too.

EDIT: Why am I saying Laeger's? Lone Star. "facepalm"

leagers is a great aftermarket frame, leagers usedto also make a lt250r frame with trx250r geomitry

Yea, it's a shame they went out of business.

Even so, never hurts to see if Lone Star made improvements in frame design, if there are mounting issues for certain pipes, etc. I'm always skeptical, although quite hopeful just by the listing.

Just by the posting and quad itself, you can tell the guy isn't some douche clown that is clueless. The quad is in great shape, clean, and has respectable mods that people get from being "in the know" instead of just grabbing a magazine and getting a DG pipe. :D

I just checked out LSR's website. Frame is 4130 Chromoly(assuming it's the same frame) and $2300......looks like a chrome LSR swingarm too.......another $800........the list goes on. That guy put a sh*tload of $$$ in that quad with a full chromoly chassis.

Looking at the LSR parts offering and the quad, it has a lot of other things from LSR. Easily a $10,000+ invested quad if it's all LSR products(aside from the nerfs).

As a side note, this really brings to light how affordable newer 450s are. :D

yeah i talked to the guy on the phone and he seams to know whats up. He bought it from his friend who had hopes of racing. long story short he did one race and it wasn't his thing. this guy bought it, and now is selling it. the price seems good for what it has, pretty much the only stock part is the cases of the engine. the only 3 bad things are it has a hacked up wiring harness (wiring for lights were cut) and it has a burn hole in one side of the rear plastics (said to be from the exhaust or something) heres the pic:

and it the guy mixes premium gas with 110 octane fuel, but i could fix that by changing the dome to lower the compression.
I talked to a guy on here that has a R and he said that this thing would be faster and handle better than any 450. I like the blaster, but it is starting to feel small, and I want better handling and more power, but with something that would do ok on trails

Well you might have to do some alterations. Racers just scrap the wiring....it serves no purpose other than being an extra mess and weight. That can be fixed rather easily though and actually probably improved if you want lights. As far as the trail riding that might be somewhat difficult. What kind of racing was he using it for? MX, trail/GNCC, etc. This may or may not be the downside of going to the larger 250R is the width of the quad with the A-arms and axle being extended, but this is all on your comfort level and where you ride. I'm not going to say it will handle better than "any" 450, but probably any 450 you will be running into. I bet that quad weighs in at around 290lbs wet.......no BS.

I'd get as much information as humanly possible about the quad including EVERYTHING pertaining to the engine. Lowering the compression in and of itself might not be enough to change the fuel setup. Personally, I'd just run the 110 mixed where he was running it with premium. It's not cheap, but it will have more power and it's not like you are riding all that far every day. Cam2/Sunoco 110 is about $6.79/gal....expensive...yea, but not that bad considering how much premium gas is now a days. Check and see what octane he was running and/or the type of fuel. I'm guessing it probably wasn't leaded 110 and probably a more exotic expensive racing fuel, but you can get by with leaded 110 in most cases.
I see no reason NOT to buy it though. A lot of the "issues" with it are things that can either be remedied or something you can easily live with/adjust too. Just keep in mind, that if you clip a tree, it's going to be one massively expensive repair. :o

yeah I made a thread on TRX250R.com to figure out if it'd be good for me. The riding I do is mostly sandy trails and fire roads in northern wisconsin. After riding my dads raptor 700 I want more, but don't care for 4strokes, I figure this thing would have some power, and with a full custom chassis it must handle pretty good. on the other forum a guy said it probably weighs 290 pounds wet. and to answer your question it was set up for MX i believe.
thanks

I'm sure that has plenty of power. As a conservative guess, I'm betting it's making 50+hp no problem on racing fuel(looks like some form of VP mix). The handling is what you will enjoy the most though.

my wiring on my lt250r is stripped down also, no lights, sucks cos i cant right at night untell i re wire the lighting system but i adjusted to it,
im sure that machine is lighter than 290 pounds, and will out handle most 450s... dirt wheels compaired the 89 250r to the 09 450r and they were fairly compairable in stock form,

my lt250r is 50'' wide and its plenty fun on the trails, tight spots you may have to slow down and second guess but its nothing you cant handle, the power alone will make up for any doubts you have!! the 250r handles like god in stock form so with the suspension upgrades its only better!!!

i knw my buddy had one with a am frame and the only thing he noticed from stock was the foot pegs were back further than a stock frame, but he said it felt better than the stock frame since it puts you in a more ' in control' position,

as for the burn hoe minor deal, new rears can be had cheaper enough, or full bore plastics would really set that thing off, hell if you dont wanna spend the money and risk bustin them up you can put 400ex rears on it, cheaper and plentyfull,

damn sexy. i wouldnt buy one personally. i like the feel of the blaster. theyre light and small. but i would absolutely love to have the handleing and power of a 250r

they did not go out of business, they were bought out by another company.
the original owners still work for them.. and they still go by the original name...

I would buy the quad. they go for that price here when they dont run...

I know it's lighter than 290 dry. I was saying wet. Didn't they put pipes on both in the test? I thought they did. The stock 250R is about the same as a stock Banshee when it's stock in power. Stock for stock, the 450R(newer ones) will walk it......granted the 250R will respond better to mods....probably why I was thinking they added pipes in that test.

The sad part is that it still takes way more money to get a 250R to run at a comparable level with 450s at the same price point, BUT when you can buy a 250R like this one at a lower used price, it all makes up for that. :D

That's also a great deal with the LRD related parts. Good thing is Arlan is still around at LED and can work on those engines still.
