shortened my LRD had to take some off the back because i had no choice... well then i found out i had to make an extension tab so it would seal good on the header... top part was shortened about maybe 2 or 1 1/2 inches...... will probably be LOUD

x2. The only thing I can think of based on that last picture is so it doesn't hit your grab bar, but if that's the case, couldn't you have just taken off that little nub on the end of the silencer? Seems like it would've been easier.
 
Well it used to touch the grab bar i didn't care... it never got hot.... part of it is that the back end holes had worn and one was cracked. dirtbike racers/ atv racers shorten silencers to get a lil more bottom/mid end

Silencers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. A long silencer with a small diameter enhance the low to mid power because it increases the bleed-down pressure in the pipe. A silencer with a short length and a large core diameter provides the best bleed-down pressure for a high rpm engine. Too much pressure in the pipe at high rpm will radically increase the temperature of the piston crown and could cause the piston to seize in the cylinder.
