Seems alot of people who "just bought" thier blaster are blowing them up.
I wish I would have hung out on here for a month before I bought my blaster.

Seems to me blaster owners will ring the sh*t out of them untill they feel its going to blow then sell them.. I will not sell somebody a time bomb.

Is it that snotty nosed teenagers are the main market for these poor blasters and they don't take proper care of them from the begining.

Or is it that alot of folks are still running the oil pump and tank because they are not in the know?

though mine did not blow up on me it was clapped out and I had the sense to discover this before I grenaded it, I had no sense about me when I bought my blaster, I had the remander of my Christmas bonus driving my madness.

I think the blaster is the biggest piece of sh*t I ever spent money on but it growing on me and I feel sorry for it so I will continue to get her back into shape.

what do you all think the main cause of the "just bought and blew up" problem is?

either the person before them took the oil injection off and they didnt mix gas or the oil tank is empty. or they bought it from someone that had it jetted for the summer and rode it in winter too lean. there are a lot of variables

mine blew about an hour after we managed to get it running, we had bought brand new boyesen reeds and a richer main jet and it was running fine until it blew. this was back i early july and since then it has not ran once. i got the motor ready to go now i gotta figure out the electrical issue

nothing lasts forever that's mechanical, moving parts wear out. Usually it's bad jetting or an air leak thoough

doesn't help when the guy at the dealer says "o yeah, never seen any problems with that oil injection" RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT lol.

I agree tho but when i got my first quad it was a priveledge (i was around 12-13) had to do chores to get gas and i took care of it because if i was acting up, it was first on the list of things to get taken away. i guess i've always taken pretty good care of my stuff tho....

I'd say its lack of care and knowledge from the previous owners. Seems like people are buying them with mods done to them and still on stock jetting. Could also be that its winter and some of the newbs are running them without rejetting or proper warm up time.

When I bought mine it ran great, still had the oil pump and I was planning on a block off kit but it quit on me before I got one. I was out on the trails and barely made it home, it lost all power and barely got moving without stalling even in first. Luckily I made it home without it blowing up, but it was still screwed, the piston was all scarred up.

I've always wondered if the pump went cuz I was running it hard or what. But I'd suggest ditching that system asap if your blaster has it, just one less thing to go wrong.

The Blaster is about 16hp from the OEM... It’s hard to do engine damage at that power output unless
1. The oil pump stopped working
2. the piston to cylinder clearance has exceeded the OEM tolerance, with excess clearance can cause the intake bridge to crack. It happens a lot
3. Crank main bearings and seals are just worn out
4. A air leak from the crank seals or case halves
Overall the Blaster is a good ATV with much potential

I agree 100% The general lack of knowledge about your engine, mods and how to tune it.

And sometimes its just plain bad luck..

OIl pump is good too

why Is there not a sticky in the engine section titled "Warning Blaster Oil pumps" with a explaination of the problem so potential buyers of blasters or new owners can at least be warned??

Or do y'all think the ignorance would overide any hope?

Also anyone else think the cold weather could effect the oil viscosity to a piont that it won't flow properly? or is that just me over thinking crap

well i think the main issue is neglect from the previous owner, but how often is the blaster that blew cost over $1000? seems to me its usually when people buy some busted, abused blasty and are looking to just get it going and dont want to replace everything just to be safe so they clean it out and try to run it, then boom.... and i would think that when companies make 2stroke injector oil they would address the cold temp issue and make it not thicken up, but i base that on opinion and have no facts to back it up lol

Dude, it ain't gonna get cold enough in Georgia for oil to not flow!! People ride snowmobiles when it's well below zero, and those are all oil injected....so I would have to assume that 2stroke oil doesn't freeze under most normal circumstances.

For what it's worth, I've talked to a few mechanics that have said that they've never seen the injection system fail....and one or two that have only seen blown motors with the block off kits on blasters.

I would say it's lack of maintenance and know-how on how to jet and keep the thing oiled properly. The kid I got my blasters from never payed any attention to them and they never seized!! I helped him maintain them a little bit back in the day.....??? One big thing is that you really shouldn't be using engine breaking on a 2stroke. That used to be common knowledge but now I don't see people saying that.

Blasters rock, especially if they're well taken care of!

agreed with everything except your Georgia comment

1. it can get pretty cold here. 2. more importantly I'm not speaking on my behalf I am speaking in general so Georgia has nothing to do with what I'm asking opinions on.

good piont on the sleds though I'm shure they have a much better setup (injected into the crankcase) and not back up a small tube to the carb.

I'm not running the pump setup but will reinstall the oil resi and plumb in and use it for a reserve-reserve tank for those epic rides that go for hours and hours

bought mine spankin new the summer of 02 and she blew the summer of 03....alll stock idk wtf happend.....but got 6 yrs after that and now i have it bored 30 over

hate to say it but myself included have done it, the younger age group def contributes to it..we have less patience and make careless mistakes..oh well. were still having fun right?
