For those that have stock YFZ front shocks installed on their Blaster.

1. With your weight on the bike does the front sag or does the shock stay at the top stop?
2. If it sags, about how far through the preload adjustment does it start to sag?
3. Can you make it bottom out, easily, sometimes or not at all?
4. Oh, how much do you weigh?

TIA for any 1st hand info.

I would like rebound & comp. adjustment without taking the shock apart like my works but I've been too cheap to buy a set to test :)

I ran a set with +2 arms. I weigh 145 lbs and had the preload nuts backed almost all the way off. Sag was about 1-1 1/2''. They were nice and soft for the small bumps, yet never bottomed out even when landing off of a 25' table top.

lets keep this yfz shock thread going, who had to use quite a few washers/spacer to get them to fit into the blasters mounts???
just got my yfz450 works triple rates yesterday for my boys bike, and when i went to install them the mounting points are way thinner than my blaster works dual rates on my bike, looks like i will need to make bushings, or just use a sh*tload of washers for them to fit tight???? like 6 washers on the bottom and possibly 8 on top?? < ruff guess just by looking
anyone else have to do this????

I don't remember having to use washers. Did they change the yfz's design? I have to use washers on the top of my shocks now but there for a honda 450r

i see all the same bushings/spacers on them as my dual rates, but i have at least 1/2 space both top and bottom, no biggie, i'll use wahsers for now, but get a good measurement and have ken oconnor make me some proper bushings!!!
and dont really think i need to use any lowering blocks, even though they are 2"'s longer, they seemed to even the bike out level with the trx250r shock i have on the back of this bike.
thanx guys, for the quick relpy

+1 Mine feel about the same as that, except I'm running 3" arms and a shock adapter kit, with a little preload dialed in. I had the kit to run longer LTR450 shocks initially, but they were way too stiff. I then swapped out for YFZ shocks and put the bracket on the lower setting. Static sag is somewhere around 1/2" and rider sag goes down a bit more, with no bottoming out and my setup is a nice ride for pretty much anywhere between 120lbs to 170lbs. If I could sort out the Z400 rear shock I'd be in business. I don't like that thing.

Here's a picture I shot while I had the various shocks on hand. Left to right- blaster, banshee, YFZ, LTR.

Thanks, Y'all should be YZF pitch men...LOL ...guess I gotta find a set! Another question. Are the shocks identical through all years or did they change at some point? Thought I heard the later ones had an improvement but don't remember where I got that from.

I searched this up in an article but wasn't sure what year it referred to. " Yamaha engineers upgraded the front and rear shocks to fully adjustable piggyback shocks that adjust for high- and low-speed compression damping". I think it's 08. Can anyone confirm this? This could be the biggest expense yet for the old junk yard quad so I ought'a get it right... :)

according to wikapedia it was '08 that they came out with the high & low speed adjustment on the shocks. In '09 they increased the rezzy by 80% and increased the travel. In '10 they reduced the travel

Thanks! This site is such a great resource! I'll be lookin for 09's ... How bout one of our creative members with CNC access coming up with a clean lookin, high quality, low cost YFZ shock adapter ... :) Don't want much, do I...LOL

My 06' were a bolt on deal with my ASR arms.
They are better then stock but not great- too stiff.
I weigh 155.
