Runs in reverse!

I finally got the blasty up and running. Was just out cruising the roads tryin to break in the new piston. Finally is sputtered out. I pulled it to the side of the road. I cranked and cranked, finally it started then i eased the clutch out and the things running in reverse in every gear. I couldnt figure it out, so i called and towed it home. Me and Dad are both lost... What in the world is the deal .. Why reverse? All gears are reverse..... I dont even know where to start looking into this thing.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks Matt..

The fly wheel key probably slipped and allowed the flywheel to run 180? degrees out, making it run backwards. im pretty sure theres some threads on here, ill find a link.

yep like they said. just take the mag side cover off and replace the woodruff key. interesting situation though lol.

Dammit man! Thanks for the help guys... I didnt know this was a common thing to happen. It was weird as hell to me, i thought i was the only one that would have something that crazy happen. I searched the net first and couldnt find nothing. I guess i should of searched the posts. Anyways that sounds like an easy fix. So i appreciate the help as always!!!! I just got off work so im gonna go look at it...

it doesnt; need to slip 180 degrees... just move enough to fire backwards..


but yeah thats definatley a woodruff key issue..

Yup definately woodruff key i checked it out tonight!!!! Whoooo thats cool though an easy fix.... Only one problem though ... Anyone know where to find a key that fits ? Or know the specs on the key? There was a couple on egay but i think they was wrong size... One thing for sure it was my first real test ride after buying the used blasty and gettin it runnin, that mother gets it !!!! Cant wait to add more perfomance... Thanks..

go buy one from yamaha they are about a dollar... and buy a cople extras toss em in your toolbox. i always keep spare around for my shees.. ya never know... oh and say away form the advance keys... they SUCK..
