Hi everyone, I just got my first blaster, its a 2005 with everything stock. The engine idles fine and starts fine and everything is fine except after a while riding the rpms start skyrocketing even when im not opening the throttle higher. The first time it happened it went to such a high rpm that the engine was literally screaming. I tried killing it with killswitch didnt work and neither did the key or the choke so i had to stall it by dropping clutch abruptly. After that i rode it and whenever the rpms started climbing by themselves going into higher gear seemed to bring them back down. killswitch and key work if the rpms are not too high. Any ideas on what could be the problem here... Any help is appreciated im still kinda newb.

Sounds like you have an airleak somewhere......use the search button to find the leakdown tester thread...build one and use it...that would be a good place to start
air leak or extremly lean for some reason...
you experianced the 'death rev' its your machine trying to commit suicide!! when it does that hit the kill switch and grab a hand full of throttle, if you can manage fast enough hit the choke and the throttle, that will add fuel to kill the motor with out damage

Yeah you gotta find that airleak , sounds like it's happening after the engine heats up so check the bolts at the base of the cylinder . Do a compression test and leak down test and make sure you check the crank seals when doing a leak down test you gotta pull the clutch and stator covers but it's the only way to be thorough
first do not run it again until you do a leak down test if it fails break out the soapy water and find that fudger id sudgest a compresion test also to make sure nothing already got harmed next time it happens witch you shouldnt run it so there shouldnt be a next time lol but do what fed said
