Alot of people love to advance their timing for low/mid range power gainage which is great but i was thinking about retarding the timing like in a Chevy V8 motor?? Im more of a Top speed kid and like power at its peak I:I. So if i retard the timing would it work??? Like would it gain topend power?? Or would it harm my engine?? Ive advanced my timing in my previous bike and their was noticable gainage of power..My new stroker-bike isn't currently built but i would love to try this on my brothers bike??

Any input would be great?

Joey.

There is a limit to it and I'm not sure what that limit is. Basically, you can turn the timing either direction as much as you want until you hit "the limits". As far as retarding the timing goes, you will hit a certain spot where the flame is chasing the piston at high RPM's and the engine will just stop pulling.

The more the ignition is retarded the more incomplete the burn will be, not enough heat will be produced to complete combustion and will result in sooty, carbon laden exhaust residue.
