Replacing Crank Seals

Anyone have to replace their seals ? I am replacing my right side and was wondering if there are any special things i need to know, especially with the balancer gear. do i need to make sure it stays in a certain position? any hint would be helpful. thanks!

just take ur clutch cover off and take the clutch off and its right there

Yea i have it all apart already. I just want to make sure i dont screw something up with not keeping the gears lined right...if thats even an issue.

you dont have to split the cases

no. i am not getting into it that deep. it jsut the seals you can get too taking off the clutch cover and the magneto

i know this.he said he already had it apart so i thought he meant he had the cases split

Once you have the whole right side of the engine apart, just put in the new RH crankshaft seal and reassemble everything. There is a timing mark (dimple) on both balancer drive gears, so make sure to align them with each other. Also, watch out how the clutch plates go back into place. That's about it for gotchas.

Since I have them memorized (I wish! Lol.), here are some torque specs, a la Clymer:

Clutch Nut: 59 ft/lbs
Clutch Spring Retaining Bolts: 53 in/lbs
Primary (crank) Drive Gear Nut: 59 ft/lbs
Crankcase Cover Mounting Bolts: 88 in/lbs
Kickstarter Nut: 47 ft/lbs

thank you sir! yea the yamaha manual doesn't have a whole lot of detail....i don't think it says anything about the timing marks haha

well there not timing marks there supposed to be lined up so that the counter-balancer is in sync with the crank very easy no thought required and you can just let the counter-balancer gear just hang out until your done then just line up the dots
