been thinking of getting a 240 kit for a while now but am starting to have second thoughts now that im thinking most with 240 kits are riding tracks and close to home. i ride out in the moutains sometimes alone and the last thing i want to do is try to drag a blaster up and down hills and back accross creeks to get it home lol

so which is going to be more reliable while also being powerfull enough to throw my 250lb ass around and impress me?

vito's 12 port 32hp 240 kit with 34mm mikuni carb, fat bastard pipe and my current mods

vs

standard bore with agressive trail port and polish, and current mods and possibly a head shaved 0.020

face it speed rocks but pushing your quad sucks

idk but were did you go for a little while havent seen you on the forum much lately
riding lol j/p been busy with life and other hobby's. i've got the attention span of a flea and end up bouncing back and forth between hobby's (blaster, shooting, photography) lately i been spending most of my time on a photography forum.

now ill be back more its time to setup a blaster for my girl to learn to ride on. got the blaster but its all rigged togather (look closely at the pic of the wheel) so ill be fixing this up for her, not performance stuff like mine but more of a restore and improve, mostly tires, rims, reeds, engine rebuild, widening, bearings, seals, bushings, breaks, and some sort of paint. just want to make something safe for her to learn to ride on and not be embarrased to be seen on.

me go 240 all the way, reliability is bullshit, its how you run it and how you take care of it, i am on stock cylinder and bore, 7 yrs old, it is well maintained

stock bore for 7 years? damn my buddies just about set me up to spend alot of money for nothing, lol i was told with 2 strokes i should tear down and fully rebuild the top end including bore 0.010 over every year. do they make a 2strokes for dummies book?

it comes down the owner usually.. if you properly maintan the machine
the biggest problem is the vito pistons as they are scrap and wil ldestroy your investmnet

yeah if you race, which most of the time they are rebuilding every weekend, yeah if you want to rebuild every year for no apparent reason and waste money you could put into upgrades, go for it! but for me i will only do it when it needs it, jmo, and go with a wiseco piston, vitos are junk! go with the 240 you will love every minute of it, i have mine and i love it and its not even on my bike yet I:I

thats great to know. i need to get a compression tester and see what kind of compression readings im getting now, i really need to take the whole quad somewhere and have it looked at and see what all is done to it. thats the only thing i hate about not being the original owner and then doing stuff to it. right after it was put back togatehr it had a crazy high (i think ) compression of like 160 psi after 5 kicks (didnt have throuttle held on tho but have heard i was supposed to)

thats basicly the main reason im looking into big bore kits and porting and bottom end rebuilding , i want to start fresh weather it be a fresh 240 kit or a fresh cylinder/head with stock bore, so i know whats there and whatnot, i'd also like to get both bottom ends rebuilt.

flotek your close by kinda do you know of any known people who do bottom end build/rebuilds?

this is gonna get expensive quick lol luckily i only need to get my girls quad rebuilt and not worry about performance mods

It is all about how you maintain your machine. If you get a 240 kit with an aggressive trail port and 3mm stroker crank and maintain it, it will hold up. If you get it and dont jet properly or take care of it it will sh*t on you just like if you dont take care of a 100% stock engine it will sh*t on you.

Your a bigger guy like me. My brother just got a aggressive trail port from Kennedy Power and it pulls really hard. To be honest from what I have heard, i thought that it would pull harder but it is still a decent upgrade for the price. If you can afford to get a 240 kit with the P&P plus a storker crank that would be ideal for you I think. That is what I am going to do and from what I have heard talking to engine builders you will have a bike that can keep up with the 400's.

Just remember when building a bike build it to the specs that you need it for. Dont under do it because you dont want to spend the money and dont over do it just because you think it will be cool. No use in spending a bunch of money on power if you cant use it the way that you ride.

yea i would go with a ported 240 and sell the cast piston you get with the kit and buy a vitos/wiseco forged piston.

i got mine ported and it pulls hard and is very reliable starts first or second kick every time. i just had some piston slap so gotta pull her apart..

i have enough power for whatever i need ride wise, its more of a want thing.

the thing i loved about the blaster the first time i rode it before i started modding was that crazy powerband that made me feel like it was gonna come up and run away from me if i wasnt carefull....

flash forward to now, its got more power but the powerband is more mild and doesnt really give me that rush anymore. its like my powerband was devided up more evenly over the whole rpm range.

only good news is that i have great low rpm power now for hill climbing/trail riding

maybe it just needs tuned differently or my mods are sort of conflicting in purpouse.

get a bigger carb and a port job, on yours first.. then if thats not enough power for you buy the 240 kit and slap the ported cylinder on your girls bike instead of rebuilding her top end

quick but stupid question, could i check the plug i been riding on for a couple months instead of doing a plug chop to determine if rich or lean?
