If my reeds are bad, which they are, couldve that been what caused my blasty to bog until it shut itself off?

Yes, bad reeds will cause it to run very bad......and often times it won't run at all.

Make sure to loctite the threads on the screws. The little beggars have been known to vibrate loose.
