O.K. so I'm thinking about new reeds for the blaster but have no idea what to get. I really like a wide powerband, not too peaky or like an on-off switch. I do mostly trail/mc track rides, not interested in drags... I was wondering if you guys had any opinions about what to get as far as reeds go and what I can expect from them. Currently I have the following:

Bored .060 over Namura power piston. (Two extra jugs on hand just in case)
OKO 30mm carb, 285 main jet, needle clip in 3rd.
Carb spacer
2 degree offset key
DG exhaust and silencer (it was on the bike...)
14 tooth front sprocket
Stock reeds and cage with limiters removed.
Modded air box with small filter pods. Stretched boot to fit carb. (it is larger now!)

When putting my engine together I noticed the ports in the Namura piston were waaayyyy different than the Wiseco piston that was in it for whatever that's worth. Overall it runs a lot better and has way better bottom end than when I got it, but that was 7 years ago, and the stock carb had a 170 main jet in it upon inspection :o along with all the other nightmares I already talked about elsewhere... so it probaly really doesn't run a lot better than stock.. I dunno, not much to compare it with.

Any suggestions would be great. Thinking about having a trail port/combustion chamber re-do done on one of my spare cylinders/heads in the future, so bear that in mind. Also, looking for a cheap right side case so I can complete a different bottom end, I have all new bearings and a standard hot rods crank just sitting there... might as well use it.

I put in the Boyesen two-stage fiber reeds last year and I thought it pepped up the throttle response.(not bad for 30 bucks) Thinking about moving up to a VForce 3 reedcage soon.

I as well am using the 2 stage carbon fiber Boyeseen type, the Vito's Boyeseen knock offs, same feedback as above, to the T. Decent throttle response, wide range PB, all good.

My recommendation is to get rid of the pipe setup, get a decent pipe and go VForce, you are not gonna get any better than that. Might as well do it all if your gonna do it.

If you are looking for something quick/easy/cheap, install the boyeseen/vito's carbon fiber 2 stage to the stock reed cage with a reed spacer, good to go for under 50 bucks...

So, if i'm reading that right, the boyeseen reeds came on later, but had a flatter power and torque curve higher up in the power band, the V-force reeds had the most ultimate power but gave up just a little way down low and at the top, and the stock reeds were a good balance between the two? Looks like I may as well keep the stock ones:-/ or are the fluctuations in the graph not likely to be felt, in which case... go for the V force set-up?

Did the stock reeds on the stock cage and were the limiting 'thingies' still there? They are gone on mine. Also, is the DG pipe decent enough seeing as how I'm not too concerned with WFO performance, but more even throttle response and a fairly smooth power band?

i would at the VERY least find an FMF pipe used to put on it. any pipe would be better than the DG and you'll probably get more power than getting reeds

The fluctuations are from tack loss during the pulls. Nothing to do with the reeds/engine
Yes the Stock reeds came on a little harder at the beginning of the pull , the boyseen reeds were horrible. The V-force reeds are the best choice for most people.. They will work the best and have great thottle reponse.

have you had a chance to try the boyesen pro series dual stage ones for a stock cage? the carbon fiber ones? just out of curiosity

Thanks guys... sounds like the V-force reeds are the way to go then. I'll update after I put them in. It'll be a while though, we just started a tight new budget........mm yeahhhhh....
