Rear breaks not working

I have a 1998 yamaha blaster with cable rear disk brakes ever since i purchased it the breaks would never lock up i recently purchased new brake pads now the brakes barley do anything at all they hardly stop the quad is it just how the brakes are made if so how do i fix it?

get a "Shorty" brake cable and make sure everything in the caliper i greesed well and moves freely.

Mine was like that...from sitting 3 years..I soaked in a bucket full of old car tranny fluid. works fine now, shinny and clean...lol

The cable rear brakes were one of Yamaha's biggest f*ck ups.
They have a mind of their own and need constant adjustment.
keep them greased up and the cable lubed but down get any slippery stuff on the rotor or pads.

as everyone else said keep em greased and get a shorty cable
