Jus asking n e one for advice, the rear brakes on my blaster are causing me some trouble. They are just standard 2001 stock and seem to have been sticking a little, so decided to remove the caliper and give it a service. Tried to remove the adjusting screw with the ratchet style thing with a 3/4" spanner. It seemed to loosen, but couldnt get it off. Now cant get the screw and/or ratchet off and also cannot tighten it up. So its just stuck in a really loose way. Tried to put it back on just to see the effects, and because its loose its exerting more pressure on the pads, so seems like brakes are on constantly.
Any advice?!
Or my other option is thinking about upgrading, reading on this site about GSXR 1000 brakes, what would i need to complete the set up, Caliper, Pads, Line, Reservoir?! ne thing else?
Does it have to be GSXR1000, can i use 700 for example, or CBR brakes.

Thanks for ne help

Jaffa

P.s Jus so i dont seem to always be taking from this site, if anyone wants any parts of the Haynes manual, more than happy to scan and post/email!

Throw it away! I went down to the local grease monkey shop and bummed a old Kawasaki GPZ400 rear caliper. I found a resivoir and a brake line with banjo nut, and bought a master cylinder as well as new pads, fitting it is a mission but well worth the effort, you will have to edit your brake pedal to by welding a piece on the end and mount the master cylinder and ressi. takes so time and skill, mayb get a technically minded buddy to help. a welder is needed obviously to make mounting brackets etc. I also tapped a thread and locked by floating disk to the axle with a grub screw. Works like a charm!

are hydro lines easy to come by?
i have a extended swinger to put on and im not sure if just any old line will be long enough?
sorry for the thread jacking but i dont wanna start another brake thread

gaffa you can buy a complete bolt on system off AWK hes a member here.. the cable brake needs to be maintained to keep them working right.. the pads in there have to be able to slide freely back and forth with very little pressure from your fingers..
when i took mine apart the pad was jammed in there.. i got the pad out got some sandpaper and sanded where the rubber oring of the brake pad would contact the inside of the caliper. after a good sanding i greesed the oring on the pad itself as well as the inside of the caliper. then slide the pad in and it should slide back in forth with very little effort then put it back togeather and your good to go.

I could not even find the white ratchet thing, its just got the adjusting screw sticking out, then i'm able to get 3/4" spanner round the base where the adjusting screw goes in, then there is just the pinsticking out. Cant find any white on there at all.
Are there ne links for more info on the hydro brake system. I'll try message AWK. Also will give the stock pads a rub down cos they do seem real stiff, if i could get them working ok, til i sort out the hydro kit, would be ideal. Also for the master cylinder does it matter which bike that comes from, and in short any sports bike caliper will do, just has to be "bastardized" to fit!
Cheers for all ur help

Dont worry bout it specalized7

the hydro lines are very common, any bike shop should have soares, they all pretty much the same, you could evn have one made at a industrial tubing outlet
