hey guys, i'd like to get some opinions from you on Raptor 660's. i've got a chance to get one for a really good deal from a friend. he's got a kid on the way and needs it gone pretty quick so i have been trying to bs with him a little. i know i have seen a couple of members on here that have the 660.

i hear a lot of people trash them, but i think that's just because they like to talk out of there ass. the only thing i know of them is that the 2001's like to shred 2nd gear, but the 02+ are okay normally.

hell idk, just give me some feedback because im leaning toward getting than and putting the gf on the warrior.

oh, and don't tell me to just get a 700r. im not really atv shopping anyway, but this came up a couple days ago.

ok here it is.
not sure if it was all years, but the one way clutch likes to go out.
the 01 have bad tranny problems.
they are top heavy.
they have loads of low end power and torque.
they are big.

they are good trail machines for a bigger quy. not so much for a small guy.

i took my 01 on a MX track, i could run 2nd through all of it without a problem, never had to worry about stalling or dieing out of a turn.
suspension wise, they really aint that bad. but compared to the new 700r, it sucks.
i heard with some wider a-arms it really handles good.

personally, i would never get another 660r, i would fork over the cash for a 700 or something else. but that is because i have already owned one and i dont like to repeat myself.
you will like it compared to a blaster. most likely you will fit better (if you are a bigger guy), the power is all over the rpm range. it has reverse (f*cking great for trail riding). they are simple to ride if your respect them.
i use to let my friends ride mine that have never ridden before. my big friend (at the time was around 400lbs) rode it, it would move his ass without a problem, but he flipped in onto my sixpack rack going up a small hill. f*cked up my grab bar only, he was ok. so i had to take the grab bar off, let my cousin ride it, coming out of a creek, he gunned it, it fliped and destoryed my light.

the parts i went though on mine was a tranny, one way clutch, new top end (2 valves, piston, timing chain). chaning oil it was a biotch, like you have to fill it up, run it then put more in, run it and wait a while. it was a long process.

oh, im sure this will be a monster compared to my warrior or a blaster as you mentioned. im not a small guy, but i ain't the biggest either. i feel like i want more power than my warrior has, but at the same time it's enough too. like i said though i may not be able to turn this deal down.

if i was on the market for a newer quad it wouldn't be a 700 either. more along the lines of a yfz or trx 450.

i had a warrior too, modded too. the raptor had more power still. plus the raptor handles better imo and rode smoother.
i was around 6'2" when i owned the raptor, around 200lbs. i was able to easier control the power the raptor had.

i rode a 450x, i would get one, but it had a low rpm sputter. and it lacked the ground clearance.
the trx450r isn't really that good in stock form. it is a good base if you plan to mod it, but stock it is the worse 450.
