my friend wants to trade me his 05 rappy 660 that runs great but wont go into gear what could that be before i get in over my head

first year raptors had tranny problems. and starter problems but this is an 05 so its hard to say with out looking at it.
sounds like it could be something to do with the shifting drum cam or one of the forks but youll never know untill you tear it apart....
