Whats up guys? I'm new to the awesome forum and new to the blaster. I been working on my own quads for years and this has me stumped big time. I bought a 97 blaster a few months ago and it started first kick. As soon as it heated up and I stalled it, it wouldn't start up again until it cooled down. I thought it was cool I started it and it ran fine for an hour at idle in the garage it died and started right back up I took it to the trail and got to the end it died again now I have no spark! I replaced the cdi stator and the coil then I find out the wiring is hacked all up. All I have is the kill switch on the bars, stator, Cid, and coil everything else is gone please help me! I wanna ride my blaster! Hahaha thanks for any help guys

Welcome to the forum. You never want to let an air cooled motor idle for that long. As far as the spark goes, try these couple things. make sure all grounds are clean and down to bare metal. If you don't have a key switch make sure your 2 wires are not connected to each other (Needs to be an open circuit.) If your wiring is all hacked up you will need a tester to check continuity through all wired to ensure there is no broken ones. When you bought your stator did all the wires match up to your wiring harness? The 03+ stators have 5 wires. If your stator has an extra wire left over (After color matching) then that wire needs to be grounded.

The wiring is soo hacked, but I got a stator off ebay it has the black/red, white/green, yellow/red, white/red and a solid black, I put my friends crap ohm meter on it and when I kick it over and put the prongs on the solid black and black/red or white/red I get 1.7 volts, I also ohm'd the coil when I checked the boot to the orange wire I get nothing when I take the boot off I get like 569.8 or something like that it keeps jumping so I cut a msd boot up and crimped an open cap on it just to see if it worked and still no dice. I even cut all the old crappy connectors off and just crimped them together thinking I had a bad connection somewhere still nothing. There is no key, not even any old wires where the key was. I downloaded a few wiring diagrams and it appears to be all hooked up right but I'm still not getting spark. I'm at a loss are there any diagrams for like a bare bones only needed to run with a killswitch diagrams floating around here? I can't find anything if you can find any please email me brandenbarrett9105@gmail.com. Thanks for your help man

Two things that I didnt see mentioned first did you try a new plug? Second was there a flywheel key n did you put the key back in n did you put the flywheel back on correctly n all the way?

i checked the killswitch with the meter and it was good, the key is in the flywheel and i put it back on with an impact gun because i dont have the proper tool to hold the flywheel. Now when I say the wiring harness is hacked i mean like one line with 2 or 3 wires tied together to make one long line. There is only one ground for the whole system to the frame and its mounted right to the coil bolt. all the grounds like for the stator, cdi, and killswitch are all spliced into one single line and grounded to the bolt that holds the coil on. I been working on this for weeks i trimmed off all the old wires that were just hanging there not going to nothing to try and clean it up a little bit and was going to electrical tape the whole thing up and make it pretty and tucked. ive looked at all these diagrams and i seem to have everything right but still no spark! UGHHH!!

Well the only thing I can say is to ohm everything to include the stator. If u bought anything used there is a chance that it is bad n even if u bought new it still can be bad. And if I were you I would take all the old wires out n replace all the wiring just to eliminate that from being the problem.

stator to cdi= white/red black/red 2 wires
cdi to coil= orange 1 wire
killswitch to cdi= black/white 1 wire
then the ground for the killswitch, cdi, and stator all are spliced into one black wire and attached to the bolt that holds the coil on.

there are 2 extra wires on the stator a white/green and yellow/red just hanging there
i dont know what to do with these 2 wires

should the killswitch cdi and stator all have their own ground running to the frame?

one other thing i never done was test the cdi how do i do that and what should the meter read? i have 2 cdi boxes im not sure but i dont think they both can be bad?

Well that is you problem. You should not have two extra wires. If I were you I would just buy a used wire harness. I'm sure you are tired of throwing money at this problem. There is no way to test the Cdi. Offer this guy 15 bucks for this. It looks good and you will have some extra parts.

The extra wires I have is a yellow/red and a green/white I was told that the yellow/red wire is for the lights I'm not running lights at all and I have no clue what the white/green wire is for

I was thinking about just buying a harness off ebay but it's just going to have lots of stuff on it I don't need again like the one I'm working on is there anything on the forums for a bare bones only needed to run wiring harness with the killswitch? I can't find anything but I'm using my phone and its not very good for this lol

I think dualstroke is running bare on him drag quad... Or it was someone else, they said they had 7 wires on the entire quad lol

No light, oil tank, TORs, brake sensor, nothing lol

Have you tried the search funtion? It works well!!
Have you tried looking at the wireing diagram??
You need power and signal from stator to cdi, ground to frame/coil, and power from cdi (orange) to coil.

I got it!!! Finally shocked myself!! All I did was ground each ground directly to the frame in different spots and got rid of that single wire that was all spliced up I also hooked the white/green wire to a ground now I got nice spark! Now for the carb and does anyone know what the stock timing setting is for the stator? Thanks for all the help guys!
