I was riding at high rpms today and that damn 02 blaster started bogging until it died. Any ideas whats going on? It wont even try to fire again. Its got spark and compression. I need help!

reeds or airleak caused hole in piston

compression test and pull reeds for a peek

the petcock is on correct?

and i would do a leakdown test and a compression test.

the reeds are right inside the intake boot

i had a yz250 that did the exact same thing. then it blew up, in mid air...LOL

i think the ring was cracked, and when the bike would run at high rpms and get too warm, the rings would expand and lose compression then not run anymore. because after it would cool down, it was fine. but only til i ran it hard again and it got too warm.

it sounds crazy, but thats the only explanation i can come up with. i rebuilt the top end, and it ran like a champ.

Ok. So I just did a top end on my son's 02' we did the warm up/cool down thing. and then hes been riding it for like two rides. He's new and kinda running the rpm's high, and it did like a partial seize. it kicked over and starts, but runs horrible. Any chance it's just the rings, or is it prolly gonna need another piston?

Thanks

Thread jacker :D

Have you been warming it up properly? Do the standard engine health checks. I:I

Did you diagnose why you needed to rebuild, and fix the problem, or did it just plain wear out?

Have you been warming up before riding.?

Have you done a leak down test since rebuilding?

Have you changed anything like the pipe or modded the intake without re jetting?

You prolly have aluminium scuffing on the bore, take the pipe off and get a look up the exhaust port at the damage, if any.

as for the bog. give your carb a once over , strip it, clean it and blast it with compressed air.

Check your reeds. Take off carb, take off carb boot (4 bolts) reed cage will come out. You should quickly see if one is snapped.

what is your compression at? do a comp and a leak test!
