port and polish

I have seen other port jobs, and none look as amateur as this one. It may run OK, but it definitely does not look good. Looks like it was done by someone who did not care.

Mr Kennedy seems to know his stuff with all the dyno work he has done. I certainly would have had him do my work until I saw this. I have seen better looking port jobs and will send my work to them.

The golfball analogy is valid to a certain point. But there is a point where the roughness is detrimental, which IMO is the case here. Maybe it is time to dust off my fluid engineering texts!!

Dust away. The dimples do no reduce turbulence, they add it.
In this particular case (small object with "sharp curves") the turbulence created by those dimples keep the flow attached to the ball longer, and reduce the size of the wake behind the ball (which is much more drag than the dimples create).
But, this aside, could this increased turbulence in the boundary layer within intake port improve the flow? Then his conclusion is correct even though the analogy is misused.

Mrbrocco have you put it together yet? How does it run? I just got mine back from Kennedy's. I'm going to put back together this next weekend.I:I

I still find it amazing how someone could judge how well a cylinder will run based upon pics. If you do not know where TDC; how could you possible know where the ports are located to crank angle. Since the Blaster engine is reed valve and not piston port; and the stock intake port flows 90cfm, how could you gain power by cutting there? If I would have glass beaded the intake port, it would have looked nice without any power gains.
The stock reeds flow 1/3 the intake port. There is a huge misconception to what ports do what. If someone was to cut only the intake there would be no power gain. If the exhaust port was cut, then changes to the power curve would be significant on a Blaster cylinder. If the exhaust port was raised; peak power would increase, with the expense of losing power at the bottom, and midrange. Unless the transfer ports are changed and the cylinder head design is changed; you would have a peaky engine. The cylinder head design is way out in left field on the blaster engine. Since the pics does not show the exhaust port design the transfer port height and width changes it is impossible to tell anything. If anyone thinks there is power to gain in the intake they are wrong. You do not double, triple or quadruple the OEM power by doing armature work. Take your Blaster to the nearest Dyno facility and have it tested. Go the dynojet.com and find yourself a place to test.
My trail port is 33hp; I have made close to 60hp on methanol with a full drag port... When I check several other web sites from other engines builders; no one wants to show dyno runs. I will be posting several dyno runs with different strokes and set ups. If your engine builder can double or tipple the power; then by all means post the dyno curve with the power and torque curve.

i agree with kennedy.
on project blaster forums a guy was asking what things he can do to make it go faster.
i recommended a port and polish and this is what i got.
Take it from me, the Shearer pipe isn't as great as it is claimed. Also, you can take a look at those dyno runs that are claiming that a trail port can make a stock blaster have 33 HP and dream big, cause it's not going to happen. I've been in this business for too long to have the wool pulled over MY eyes.

I think that we should ask WINKY what he thinks about a trail port for under $200.00 that will get your blaster capable of running at the National level.

BEWARE OF FORUM INFORMATION WHEN IT COMES TO SPENDING MONEY!!!

Oh brother, it was bad enough that people on other websites were BS'n people into wasting their money on promised, but not delivered performance. Now it's happening here. And what the heck is up with the picture of the intake porting, that is one of the worst hack jobs I've ever seen. Don't believe me? Show that port job to a "known" professional (like Baldwin, Sparks, TC, Trinity or myself) in the engine building community and watch them laugh their butt off. Big tip here, Before letting loose of your hard earned cash, ask for references of championships won (at the national or regional levels), county fairs and local tracks don't count and then check them out by calling the customers and checking the records online. With the economy the way it is , it is baffling how many people have all of a sudden become "professionals" seemingly over-nite. DO NOT take their word on it, you want proof.

And I responded to your post also!! All you're trying to do is to keep the sh*t stirred, both here and there.

im wondering why we havent heard from mrbrocco on this..he started the thread !! i seen him on the forums last night posting up on another thread. were all prolly really curious about how that bike ran after ..atleast i am. if im missiing something in these post pls correct me. i didnt read through all of em cause some our lengthy !

well, whatever that dude on the other site wants to say about porting, all i know is that i'm no newbie to engines (though i'm not nearly as knowledgeable w/ 2strokes as i am w/ 4strokes) or to riding, and the power gains from kennedy's p&p were amazing! honestly, when i got my cylinder back from angus, it looked fantastic; blasted and clean....but it did look like a fairly conservative design compared to pix i had seen on the net. i was worried about it till i bolted her up and rode her.
holy sh*t, that port job and head design gave my sh*t TONS more juice. much more than all the other mods i'd done. and this was w/ a pipe that he didn't have any personal experience w/ (the f7).
since then i've spent a lot of time w/ angus on the phone and i consider him a good buddy. that dude knows his sh*t and he can justify everything he does w/ raw numbers and facts. he doesn't just cut a shape thinkin that it must work better, he checks and dynotests everything in order to know for a FACT that his design maximizes the power potential.

Kudos for Mr. Kennedy stating his case on this post. I give him full credit for that. I cannot say the same for MrBrocco for starting his post and not following it up.

Well, in another thread he (MrBrocco) mention that he has someone else working on his head and cylinder and that the person was going to dyno it for him. He must have money to throw away. I would have at least tried the set up first.

It probably would have run great in the first place. Now he's got someone else messing with it who will probably completely screw it up and he'll get back on here and blame it on Kennedy and say it runs like sh*t. Just seems to me thats the kind of guy mrbrocco is

It doesn't sound like it. He started this thread and hasn't even come back to explain or challenge any of the comments. He just threw up some pics and bad talked Kennedy's work and didn't even try it out. Now he started another thread about having someone fab some yfz450 a-arms on his blaster. Which by the way is the same person that is working on his motor now. So, I figure the person working on it will probably clean off some of the paint and make it look nice and clean.I:I Then charge him for a port job that Kennedy already did. =)) I mean if it has already been ported what more can this guy do....?:">

Maybe the guy tried it, didn't like it, wasn't out that much money and figured that it was his mistake for choosing the porter, and is not the type to continue to trash somebody. Maybe this is how he really is!

Just my thought.

You might be right. But, I would think that if he tried it and it wasn't any good that would be even more of a reason to warn others of the results. If someone came on here and posted that your stuff didn't look good wouldn't you want hear that he tried it? He was trash talking from the start in my opinion. From what I can see he didn't call Angus and talk about it first before posting pics or even trying it out.
I had questions about my porting also but I spoke with Angus+about+it.+I+didn't+come+on+here+and+bash+with+pics+of+it.+++Most+porters+don't+like+people+posting+there+port+jobs+cause+if+they+found+a+way+to+make+more+power+than+that's+there+selling+point.++
