anyone ever heard of vertex pistons? i currently have one that needs replacing. i blew my cylinder gasket ran a little lean because the person that owned it before me used rtv to seal it. it has a vertex piston and the number on top says 0.50 not 0.05. not sure what size it is but measures 2 5/8 in.

probably a 66.50 bore

and you have to have the bore measured to the .00x so that you know what piston it actually needs.

the piston to wall clearance is around .0025 or so..........that's less than if you cut a hair in half

the guy im going to use says he is a big fan of pro x. He said that they hold there clearance or something better than the wiseco. Anyone have any input? He is a very reputable guy, thats local. 55 for the bore, chamfer and hone.

imo. wiseco is better, i have had both, found the rings went faster in the pro-x, this was in my sled.

but i would go with what your builder is confident with i guess

i think prox is like an oem cast piston, i beleive the weisco forged piston is a better option and has a pie section cut on the exhaust side for better response. weisco ftw

dont they all have a cut out on the exhaust side? my current piston has two cutouts on the exhaust side.

the cutout your talking about is the one under the rings that goes on the intake side, those are called boostports. what im talking about is an area on top of the piston thats actually about 1mm lower than the rest on the exhuast side. weisco is the only manufacture to do this that i know of. if you watch kens vidio he talks a little about raising the port of the exhaust on the cylinder, this piston essentially does the same thing. if your cylinder has been ported and exhaust port has already been raised then u might not want the weisco. it can be a pain working on a motor after someone else and you dont know what they have done to it.

thanks for clearing that up surfr . i will have to check the cylinder but i think im going with the wiseco

VITOS IS LOWERED NOT WISECO!!! if i were you id go with wiseco tho it is up to you. id hate for you to buy vitos crap when you can get a better piston

i just got back from the machine shop. he said my cylinder is in great shape and it just needs a hone. he said the piston was not originally in my cylinder. the person i bought it from must have thrown it in there prior to sale. the marks that are on the piston are from it being used in another cylinder since the marks dont match. he said i need a 66.50mm piston and can do some porting for 130, says it will help in lower to mid-range. i might get this done or hold off for now. he recommends getting the pro x.

spend a few extra bones and send it somewhere good for portwork. you will thank yourself later.
