I bought an '02 Blaster, with standard bore, and the guy said the piston rings were bad. So, I tore apart the motor and the piston looks scarred really bad. I also noticed some play where the piston rod attaches to the cam(not sure exactly what its called, more into cars). I was wondering, how much play is normal for that area, and about how much should I be looking at to replace the piston? Mind you, I only payed $200 for the 4wheeler.

the rod is attached to the crankshaft, you will need to hone the cyclinde ror either get it bored out and get a new psiton. there is supposed to be a lil bit free play on the crankshaft for the rod to move a little bit

The rod should only have very slight play. It is possible the crank bearings are worn. If I were you I would just have the cylinder bored out to what the next size up is and buy a weisco forged piston. The cylinder work and piston should only cost around $150 if you do the install yourself. I would not mess with the bottom end untill in blows cause it will cost way more than you paid for the entire toy for the labor itself
