What is the OEM piston to cylinder wall clearance? I am getting my cylinder bored and honed and the shop needs to know before they hone it. Thanks.

You got your cylinder bored by a shop that's asking YOU about piston clearance????? You my friend are a brave man! .0014" / .0016" are the factory specs with a limit of .004". I think the factory spec is tight on the low side. Tell them .0025". Make sure you check it when you get it back.
i was thinking the same thing, if my engine guy asked me about clearances i would slowly back away with my cylinder in hand haha. does he need to borrow a boring bit also? lol
He's not a builder, it is a local machine shop so quit ragging me. Plus I'm getting it done for $35.
Yeah man, I know. I just called the shop and told him 2 1/2 thousandths. I appreciate the help you guys gave me.
You may want to tell him to take the last .003" of material with the hone. Makes the rings last much longer. Knocks all of the peaks down.
Yeah, he is. He bored it yesterday and needed the clearance for the hone. He is also going to chamfer it and clean all the ports while he is at it. All for $35!
yeah the local guy here does all the dirt track engine and he bores my cylinders for $40..he also chamfers the ports.. ask if they do that also,, so the rings dont snag the ports
