hey i have been looking at itp sandstar paddles but my friend said they might be too tall of paddles and i wanted to know your guys thoughts

If your using them for dunes then ignore your friend, theres no such thing as too tall of paddles. The taller the better.
dude the sandstars have alot of traction and grip its hard on the engine and burns up the clutch if the quads pretty much all stock...
the taller the tire, taller the blades, or the more blades there are, the harder it is for the engine to turn them over. A mostly stock blaster geared 13/40 would work well with 20" 8 blades (ITP sand stars for instance) for all but the steepest dunes.
If you upgraded the induction system, pipe, and got some porting in that engine to help it breath better you could probably pull the same paddles with 14/40 gearing and reduce the amount of shifting and bogging.

I like tall sand tires. When our sand is dry, the smaller the tire dia, the more it wants' to bury it's self, like it's always trying to climb out of it's own hole. This is really obvious on a little low power quad like an LT80. More so with a heavy rider. Stopping on any kind of incline can be a pain in the a$$. We just gear so the blaster can still pull in 6th. We like the skat tracs cuz they're wide, light and tend float on top the sand and use sand stars on our guest blaster. They are narrower but have taller paddles. That's just my opinion, there's a ton of bikes out there with short tires. Go to your dunes & see what the locals are using.
