i have a 91 blaster that has a idle that goes out of control ( revs high i have to hit switch or stall it ). it does not matter if it is warm or cold, and the cable is NOT stuck, any idea's ?

i took bottom off of carb nothing looked wrong but i am unfamiliar with small engine carbs, any hel would be appreciated

maybe air leak
maybe clogged jet
maybe incorrect jetting

do this, take the carb off. then take it all aparts and clean it all out. clean all passage ways, clean the jets, make sure everything is 100% clean.
put it back together and back on the quad. start it up and see if the idle is better.

if not, do a leakdown test. search the forum, you will find more info about that.

it could be anywhere thats why u get a leakdown tester if its leaking time to get some sopy water out startg spraying stuff and look for bubles

it could be there, it could be a bad seal on the crank either side, bad base gasket, cracked case

there could be many places

Try this as I had the very same problem. I tried everything I could think of and find on the forums. Start up the engine and grab your throttle cable by your handle bars. Move it around and see it your throttle changes. I had to back the little adjustment out a couple of turns by my throttle box. Takes two seconds but will solve a lot of head akes if this is the problem. Let us know what fixes it.

The best way to go after the problem is eliminate what it can't be .
1. Do a Compression Test
2. Do a Leakdown Test
3. Clean the Carb

Does your Blaster have the TORS unit still on it?
Check to make sure no little critters have crawled into your exhaust silencer and plugged it up.

Good Luck

1) low compression wont cause it to idle super high
2) TORS will not cause it to idle super high
if it does have TORS on it, it isn't a stuck cable or slide

to the OP, is it hard to start?

My point was to start with the basics a
compression test and a leak down test will
right away Identify an air leak which will cause the problem and a dirty plugged carb could have caused the rider to crank up the idle screw on the tors unit . Just a thought huh .....

back your throttle cable off a few turns on the throttle lever... mine was doing the same thing and i backed it off and it is fine. if not, most likely an air leak.

Check if your throttle cable slide is screwed on all the way. My was cross threaded and I only had it on half way because I thought it was tight. I unscrewed and rescrewed it on all the way and it reved fine

It IS an airleak if it just started out of the blue. Also, if you have not taken the top end off the engine, it is going to be a crank seal. And, if it was the the one on the clutch side, it would be sucking tranny fluid into the crankcase and would run like sh*t. Most likely it is the crank seal behind the stator and flywheel. It is the easiest one to change. But, the underlying cause of a bad crank seal is bad crank bearings. The bearings start to get up and down play in them and let the crank shaft wander as it turns. This wandering causes the crank seal to stretch out in the center causing an air leak. Bearings are not so easy to change. Good luck.

is the tors still on the carb ? reving outa control is tors or air leak, one or the other. start with the tors, check the sticky and disconnect it

i thought the tors would shut the quad off it it reved outa control cause throtle overide system and when it failed it would just shut the quad off for no reason i never heard it makes the quad rev outa control

FIXED THANKS..

Problem was slide inside carb was sticking, cleaned and adjusted everything, does not do it now. still need to do a few adjustments though, idle is off a little, go's to low then stalls, but is running good.
