My buddys bracket broke fro his muffler and he has been riding around with just the one pipe coming from the head, no muffler, can this hurt the motor at all? Overtime??

well,a 2 stroke pretty much needs that pipe. I would advise ya'll to get it back on there.
As far as long term damage i don't know, but a 2 stroke NEEDS that back pressure to operate correctly.

yea... he's loosing a lot of power by running it this way. It may sound cool, but it's not the way to go...

i have mines with the end cap off the silencer and i see nor feel a decrease in power. its just hella loud. sounds like a real man machine lol

really ? I was under the impression that sence a after market silencer made more power than stock,or brand vs. brand that it must have something to do with the engines need for a given amount of pressure.
I guess i will step off with my limited amount of knowledge of the 2 stroke.

the only thing i could see that big piece of fiberglass doin is canceling sound waves, i would think having that long segment of pipe between the headpipe and the silencer would be more important to backpressure than the silencer it self. but then again im probly so wrong about that lol i dont know but it seems that way to me

Yeah the long segment of pipe between the the stinger and silencer acts like a extention to the stinger, thats why pipes that are built to be used without a silencer ( road bikes, drag pipes ect. ) have a longer stinger where as a in frame pipe that uses a silencer will have a shorter stinger becuase the silencer acts as one. A longer silencer will aid top end power while a shorty will aid in lowend power but thats really it.
