I recently blew up my blaster and everyone tells me that I was running lean. But, just before my fourhweeler blew up I put a toomey exhaust on and before that it was running perfect. And it was one ride up the rode with my toomey kit and it blew the motor up. So I started to ask local shops and all told me it was running lean (not getting enough gas and too much air). Well then I asked another local shop who is ordering my piston and all that and he thinks that my oil injection quit working. What do you guys think made my blaster blow up?

did you rejet for the exhaust??
if not, you ran it lean and blew it.

did you not put oil into the injection tank?
if so, you ran without oil and blew it up

i haven't heard of the injection ever not working. i have heard of kids putting in the wrong oil or not putting any oil in it. Also people allow dirty to fall into the tank which then clogs the line.

if you didn't rejet for that toomey to about a 290 or better you were probably running lean. not to say your oil injection didn't quit. everyone here gets the block off kit from vitos or somewhere like that and mixes their own gas at a 32/1 mixture or somewhere around there and don't use cheep oil in your gas either. do a search to check out the oil injection block off and types of oils people suggest.

I resent that. I use the oil injection because I'm to lazy to premix.

The Toomey KIT comes with a 310 and you put the needle on the second step, I believe, with the intention that you run a seriously perforated lid or no lid. If you just put on that pipe without rejetting then 95% probability that that was your prob.

MOST people do an injection removal as well, mixing your own gas is good insurance against pump failure and the best way to control what ratio you are running.

well grungegod i will be looking forward to your post on top end rebuild when that oil injection quits while you're out riding and your piston melts..

Another mistake people can do and dont realize it, is that after a teardown or disconecting the oil injection lines when they put them back on they dont bleed it, so that pump is gonna be pumping straight air into your carb and leaning your jetting

Yes I rejetted the carb to a 310, and the reason people are telling me it is running lean is because my pipe was red hot when it blew which I guess means its too hot. I don't have and airbox lid on and toomey tells you to put the needle on the third which on a 03 and up blaster the factory already put it there

I guess the reason that the pipe was red hot was because there was tooo much air and not enough gas. I'm just wondering what to do? I am going to be removing the oil injection

I actually find Yamaha to be one of the worst types of oil for 2 strokes. I took apart my Yamaha 1200 jet ski (3 cylinder) and it was gummed up so bad, it was like grease. So i would run something like amsoil, bel ray, maxima, klotz, or something better than yamalube. just my .02

+1 on the amsoil I use it in everything.as for your problem its definate it was lean and that's why it grenaded.you need to find out why before you put it back together or the same thing will happen again.have you checked your intake?when I rebuilt my engine I found a large tear in my intake that would have for sure been a major issue.id look it over with a finev tooth comb there was or is a problem somewhere.
