Oil in crank case....

So, I was messing around with the blaster that I have taken apart and not yet put back together when I noticed that the crank is covered in oil.....and I don't see any oil in the oil window for the tranny.............crank seal(s)?? Or am I splitting the cases? Kinda too late to do a bleed down test considering the cylinder is already off.......

Should I just say F it, fill the tranny and keep running it??

I've never seen so much oil on a crank before....I did kick the bike over once or twice before I ripped it apart (at like 1am, hammered). When I took off the gas tank I realized why it didn't start...there was zero gas!!

So there is supposed to be oil on the crank even if the motor hasn't run in a long long time?? Like probably a year and a half to two years.

no. the crank is separate from the tranny, but there is a seal that could easily go bad like you said or the sealant between the case halves could be bad. tear the right side of the motor off and take a look at that seal, if it looks dryrotted or anything you might be able to get away with just replacing it, but you may have to split the cases. if you do, use hondabond or yamabond, not that crappy silicon sealant.

Here are some pics I took when I was taking it apart. A bunch of oil on the crank...

Everything looks a lot better than I expected based on how well this kid took care of his quad. It resided at my parent's house for the majority of the time that the previous owner was actually riding it....so first hand how bad it was abused and barely ever maintained!
