Hello im new to the forums and new to the blasters as well.Last 2 stroke i had was a yamaha tri moto 3 wheeler years ago.

Anyways i recently bought an unknown year blaster from a coworker for a 125.00.The thing has a ton of bolt ons full exhaust(FMF fatty front pipe and a powercore 2 sst in the rear,gears,lowered,itp wheels and tires,widened rear end,k&n filter,boysen reeds.

The thing looks great and as i said has a ton of bolt ons but the engine was garbage 50psi on a compression test.So i ordered a rebuilt engine off of ebay and had a local shop fully rebuild the carb.

My question is ill be running premix of 32.1 amsoil full synthetic and with the current mods what should i jet this to?I took a look at the moose racing carb rebuild kit and the bigger jet said "230" on it.Upon picking up the carb from the shop they told me that the other jet was bigger so they put it back in.

With the current mods will i be in the ball park with the 230 or am i risking damage?The carb is a stock VM26SS mikuni carb.

Sorry so long but wanted to be as descriptive as possible.

personally i would feel better starting off around 250ish mabey 260 if its cold out. plug chops, plug chops, plug chops!!!
 
A 230 jet is stock on the blaster. With the fmf and k&n filter i'd say start at at least a 260 or 270 and do some plug chops. While you are rejetting unless you ride in a lot of dusty or really wet areas, you could take the airbox lid off, it will let it get more air and increase the power too. If you do that I'd probably say start at a 280 or maybe bigger.

Jetting is pretty much a guess and check process to get it perfect. Pick a jet you think should be close and run it a little then do a plug chop. There is a sticky on this if you need more info, I will try to find it and post a link. It also depends on temperature and elevation, among other things, so no one can tell you exactly what you should jet at.
 
my olsd 2001 had afmf exhaust with boyseen reeds and no air box lid.. i ran a 280 main..and it was dead safe!!!

32:1 is a good mix but personnaly i wouldnt run amzoil unless you get it cheap, maxima 929? klots r50 klots techniplate, pro honda hp2... clean burns are the way to go
 
The air box lid is MIA.

Will i need to only jet the bigger side?Also can i buy individual jets or do i have to or should i invest in a whole kit?

I just figured from what ive gathered on the net that the mods i have are fairly common to have and that some one has the same or very similar setup so they could point me in the direction.

With that stock 230 jet could i still ride this (not balls to the wall) to break in the engine?Or should i do the jetting immediately?

Whats the drawbacks with the amsoil?The local shop ive been to has all the oils you said and i belive more.I went with what i know since i use amsoil in my 5.0's.
 
I wouldn't ride at all before a rejet, and for jets i would recommend jets r us, go to jetsrus.com and u can buy them individually. That way you can get a handful of jets around the size you are going to need for rejetting.
 
the amzoil will leave deposits which will foul plugs and gum up exhaust ports, a clean burn is the way to go, i thought the same thing, i tryed amzoil in my first blaster.. one tank and i dumped the rest out!!!.. switched to pro honda hp2 100% synthect race oil.. its designed for power valve motors.. so its super clean burn, i ran 30 hours on a plug, finnaly changed the plug only because i re jetted the machine
 
Just ordered a 280,290,300 jet sizes for this mikuni.What opinions do you guys have will one of these be likely to get me jetted correctly with my current mods?

I see there are many sizes for the other side how will i know if i need to change it as well?
 
amsoil is a good oil, i use it all the time no problem. i dont mix 32:1 i mix either 40:1 or 20:1.....i cant remember which is which...i use a ratio rite cup and its set for 2.5 gallons, i always mix for 5......i'd have to look...

from what people are telling you, those jets should be fine....

i would get teh jetting close before actaully doing any hard riding....everybody breaks in engines differently.....when i rebuild, if i know the jetting is close...im hard on it form the get go..my engines last a long time...i "break it in" as im goin to ride it for the rest of its life.....but its also not super cold out either....
 
Like one person said do a plug chop. I read about it about two weeks ago. A friend & I did it on his blaster, works like a charm. There ia a thread "Premix ratios/ myth/ facts). Very informative!
 
Welcome to the forum....... Sounds like you got one hell of a deal if you picked up your blassty for so cheap w/ all those parts! Pictures?

Let us know how it turns out.... I'm going to have to re jet soon too. Once you get your dialed in, please let us know what jet you went with!
 
Well the jets have arrived and i put in a 280 to start with its turned bitter cold out and i dont want to chance leaning a brand new engine out.

What i am still concerned with is will i need to swap the other jet out?If so how will i determine this?

Ill get pics up ASAP.
 
First off...What is your elevation?? This is needed to determine jet size. Secondly in an air cooled pre-mix application I recommend a premix of 32:1 with a semi synthetic castor based oil such as Yamalube 2R or Klotz R50. The full synthetics may have a stronger film strength but as said earlier they don't burn off completely and leave deposits. As far as "the other jet" is concerned that is your pilot jet. Star with your pilot air screw 1.5 turns out as a base line setting. If it won't idle at this setting you will adjust the screw in or out untill you can get a stable idle. You will then adjust the idle up to around 1000 rpm (high idle) and turn the pilot air screw out until the idle raises slightly then turn it back in .5 turns. Then re-adjust the idle screw to desired idle rpm. If you end up less than .5 turns out on the air screw you need to install a larger pilot jet, if you end up more than 2.5 turns out on the air screw you need to install a smaller pilot jet. You should start with the slide needle (jet needle) in the middle clip position, moving the clip towards the blunt end will lean the midrange mixture, moving the clip towards the pointed end will richen the midrange mixture. Let me know your altitude so I can give you a good baseline to tune your main. If at sea level to 1000 feet you should be starting at 280 with your mods. Higher elevations will require a smaller jet.
