Hi all I just picked up my first 4wheeler 99 blaster I have several bikes and done just about everything myself..

Anyhow I paid $600 for a running blaster that could use a good once over, I noticed after I got it home tonight and a friend helped me unload it and asked if it ran, so I started it up for him then stupidly took off down the road but it has no brakes ..so after ziging and zaging to scrub speed I returned to my garage and noticed just about ever seal was contributing oil to my garage floor.

where is the best place to buy all the seals and are they all replacable from the outside (not having to split the cases)

I will be taking the jug off to check the cylinder and the crank real soon.

I run ford type f automatic transmission fluid in all my 2 stoke bikes gear boxes do any of you do that?

Congrats on the purchase, man! As I'm sure you discovered, Blasters live up to their namesake!

For $ 600.00, that was a good buy, especially if the quad only needs normal maintenance and brakes. Moose Racing does indeed offer seal kits for the Blaster. They're well put together. In fact, I installed one in my '02 Blaster and was very happy with the result. Cometic and K&S also supply them. I'd just shop around to find the best deal.

You do NOT have to split the cases to replace any seal on a Blaster. However, you will need to remove both the LH and RH engine covers, the flywheel, stator plate, clutch assembly, and main crankshaft drive gear to gain access to the crank seals. It isn't hard to do, especially if you have experience with similar machinery. Just don't forget to drain the oil from the gearbox prior to removing the RH cover, and remember to buy a new clutch cover gasket, along with the oil seal set.

As for what oil to run, eveybody has their favorite brand and formula. I use Mobil-1 10w-30 in both of my Blasters. Some people like the specially-formulated ATV/dirtbike gearbox oils. Either of these will work fine. The use of ATF in a Blaster will not lead to any immediate component failures, but it could cause accelerated wear to the tranny. Not 100% sure on that one. I haven't tried ATF in a quad, but I do know that many hydraulic systems run on this type of fluid...

thanks guys I think I got a pretty fair deal but I also think I should tear down and inspect/measure the cylinder and crank while I'm at it with the seals.

the swing arm has slop as does the steering and front wheels and looking the motor over reviels different kind of bolts everwhere.
I may go and pick up 1 more blaster w/out engine today.
