ahhhhh, i thought you meant i was insinuating sumthin i didnt
got ya !!!!!!!!
need more coffe, need more coffee...................
can't wait to see the civic magic touch on this !!!!!

No, no accusations of insinuations here my man. Just like to keep busy, my problem is that seems to keep me poor too!

I'll take a picture of the QR pulled all to pieces and laid all across the garage tonight :p The magic touch looks like a bomb went off inside the frame right now LOL

I can see already one spot on the frame that will need some attention BEFORE paint. The lower left a-arm back mount is bent wierd. I'll chop it out and weld in a new piece of chromoly and weld the arm mount back on.\

I'm thinking about building a set of a-arms already for it, the frame ends look very similar in design to the blaster and the ball joint ends are these cast pieces with tube welded to them. I bet I could cut the stock arms apart and re-use the outer ends and make them easily. The major hurdle is the shocks. These shocks have a very thin mounting eye (where the upper bolt goes through) and I'd rather not chop the shock mount off the frame (trying to preserve as much of the stock stuff as possible where it's not completely beat to death)

glad to see you adressing the front suspension, sumthin just always looked wierd on them lt's to me ???
spreading it's wings should help

The lower half the frame is very wide compared to most "proper" sport quads, travel is limited from that aspect without going wider.

The biggest headache is the shocks, I'm either going to have to go with aftermarket shocks or change the upper mounts to accomodate the widely available shocks. Always something!

Diggin around, it seems to be the most popular mod is to put +2 a-arms on the LT's. I believe this may be exactly what I go with after I gusset and straighten a few frame dents and dings.

The FMF pipe on there seems to be second only to the "Q" pipe. This particular FMF has taken a beating and will basically need a rebuild but that's nothing I don't think I can't handle.

I'm going to give the cylinder a little "love" while it's off. Might as well, I've got the stuff to do it with. I'm going to play nice around the exhaust port and just do a lot of smoothing (similar port matchup flaws as the blaster has) and caressing. Not as much "hogging" as the blaster cylinders get. This is a fairly potent setup to begin with, just needs a little attention to the details.

Amazingly, the lower transfers are HUGEEEEEE compared to the blaster but the transfer ports are about the same size. Curious really....

Also, something I didn't know. The powervalve on these isn't a "normal" powervalve at all. Most powervalves move the top of the exhaust port down for torque and up for high rpm operation. This powervalve actually adjusts the resonance of the pipe by opening a chamber BELOW the exhaust port to change the incoming and outgoing soundwaves. Apparently the effect isn't as strong (power wise) but comes on a lot smoother. Put on a top end pipe and then adjust the powervalve for good torque below where the pipe comes in at. Apparently a bulletproof powerplant.

The squish area on this head SUCKS! too. The squish area is like 25% of the bore and the dome is huge. No wonder there are aftermarket companies out there making new heads for these. CHutzell, you said something before about cutting a head and I said I might take you up on that one day. Still feeling froggy?

I'm thinking I need a larger carb. Anyone happen to have a PWK 38 or PWK 39 laying around they want to part with? This thing comes from the factory with a Mikuni TM34 but I'd like to have all keihin jetting and think that this quad could benefit from having a larger bore carb.

Against mmajay's better advice, I have decided I'm going to keep the LT and fix it back to 100%

I started work tonight after working for a little while on Slickerthanyou's cylinder.

I determined the starting position for the repairs, the rear carrier assembly is as beat as the rest of the quad but repairs need to start on rolling components and work upwards (and I kind of enjoy tiggin' aluminum HEHE!). The carrier assembly is a 4 bolt "slider" (think LTR, KFX, DVX) but the rear adjuster studs sticking out of the back of the carrier were both hacked up. The first order of business was to replace one of the "bosses" the studs thread into (it was completely fugged up and had to be ground off and completely replaced!) and repair the snap ring groove the rear caliper mounting bracket slides up onto. Fun stuff, pictures tomorrow in the sunlight!

The next step (next week after the holiday) is to pull the front suspension off, remove the electrics, remove the radiator and grind the "skid plate" someone added on there off and replace a few pieces of the frame tubing which have seen better days.

Carnz, what's the actual blue color for the frame? I will need a paint code, I'm thinking about automobile paint single stage because I don't have room in an oven for this thing.... Perhaps I'll work on my oven before I finish this project up and will have the capacity later..... who knows!

Glad you are going through with it you will LOVE a Suzuki. And you mean LTZ not LTR. Correction. =]

You're absolutely right, I did mean LTZ, not LTR. I would go back and edit but that would make ^^^^ that post seem a little silly :p

There is SO much work to be done on this thing.... I'm sitting on the fence at the moment about repairing the beat FMF fatty that came on it (it has a few vicious dents and one spot it looks like someone tried to pack filler rod into a hole and heat it with a torch to *KIND OF* melt the blob together. That one area and possibly two other larger dents have go to come out of the head pipe..... and the silencer looks like it was crushed up against a tree or something at one point.... 8-|

i got some lt stuff here if you need anything..the 400ex z400 rear shocks work good with very minor mods. the front shock arent bad if you can find some good one's. there is an mxz sled that some guys have used the front shocks off of and they like them. i can find out if you want. the camber mod and steering knuckle flipping helps a ton! that powervalve can be adjusted..alot of people say it does little to nothing and remove them or weld them shut, but i kept mine in and IMO it helped. th PT mid and hi rev pipes are good along with the LRD if you can find one. ftz and power pros are better for a more topend set. the PT hi got great mid and really rips on top. idk how you are setting it up but the head sucks..you can find old powerheads here and there with different domes.. on race gas they love .040 squish. the little piece of aluminum on the clutch side cover that holds the cable where it adjusts likes to break off easily. i could write a book..let me know if you need anything. glad you are keeping it, i miss mine. looking fordward to what you will do with it. oh and yeah the maier plastics fitment sucks! the pipe will burn a hole in the rear plastics..yours probably has that already and the kicker likes to hit the rear fender..i trimmed mine off some to clear...usually all bolt holes are of too..the fit is bad, but there are not many options.

I'm interested in other shocks. These are beat and I don't feel like building custom extended a-arms to fit crap stock shocks.

What's the camber mod and steering knuckle flip? I signed up over at quadracerhq but they haven't authorized my account so I can't post up my "beginnings" and ask those types of questions.

It has a beat (nearly to hell) FMF on it, I'm thinking about using the headpipe section and making a pipe for it. It's some steel and some argon, no sense in buying a pipe when I have the machinery here to make one. Plus, I can make it to fit my engine ;)

I'll be keeping this particular model on pump gas thank you and have already inquired about getting the head modded properly.... blaster heads don't scare me, they don't have cooling jackets.... I am probably going to have to reweld material into the bowl on this head however. Stay tuned for that adventure!

The maier plastic fitment usually does suck but, as you said, there's not a lot of choices. I'm probably going to buy a set of maier plastics when I get all of the other little problems solved (basically wait to buy those until I have a 100% ridable naked quad)

your shocks are either 14.88 or 15" long.. the mxz shock that works is from 440 and 500's from 96-98. i would check with the seller first though, but i have heard some lt guys say they like them. the camber mod is making a small spacer, this can be done with a washer. to space out the lower balljoint and get rid of the stock negative camber. the knuckles im talking about are the parts that connect the tie rods to the spindles. if you take them off and flip them over, i think you switch right to left also. the will eliminate alot of bump steer. those 2 mods will make the LT feel and handle alot better though. if you keep an eye out you can get used oem plastic sometimes. if you can find a decent set for a deal maybe just rework them to shiny! there is a ton of info on these on E2S also. they have a thread on parts interchanging also. on late 87+ models 26 spline, pretty sure z400 rear wheel hubs fit.. you can put them wheels to use if you still have them. on the 85- early 87 models, 24 spline yamaha hubs fit the axle. i might have number of splines mixed up there. it has been a few years since i have had mine and even longer since i have built one. i ran the z and ex rear shock though, they work great, mine luckily had good stock front shocks and they worked well enough.

I was looking up the MXZ shocks after you said something. I like the 18" pro's.... rezzy's and everything, I think I could rock those with some extended a-arms.

The camber mod won't be necessary, I'm planning on taking the stock bent up a-arms and hacking them to pieces for their parts anyway... I can't leave anything be....

I saw the LTZ hub fits on the 26 splines. Mine already has the 5 lug hubs in good shape and rolled lip aluminum 10" wheels on the back. I think a little sanding and polishing and they'll look pretty decent. The real trouble is going to be the front wheels, they're pretty beat up. and I know at least the right front is bent some.

I'll check out everything I can on E2S about them too. Finally got authorized on QuadracerHQ to post up a thread. Working for any information I can get on there too.

yeah the newer model mxz's had some great suspension. i would think some might be too stiff on a 300lb quad though. i guess thats where the experimentation comes in. will be nice to use stock balljoints for custom a arms!

His pipe looks REALLLLLLLLYYYYYYY familiar. That's nearly exactly what mine looked like before I did it all up except my rolls are small enough diameter that I don't have to part my final cone... slick stuff.

yeah man, they look good. i know he has done alot of testing also, i hear they work good. i know a guy who will have one soon. i can get ya his feedback on it, if you care.

I'm sure it's going to nearly rip his arms off.... everyone who gets a new banging pipe has nearly the same review LOL!

I'm going to be building my own I guess, probably not a split pipe like that one, probably a left bend out to the outside of the frame (like the FMF that's on it now but even more badass)

hahaha..yeah most of the time that is the case. well, im looking fordward to seeing what you do with it. alot of people put them down, but i like them. they just need certain things addressed, which im sure you will do.
