I think my question would be what type of riding are you doing? Is it merely a matter of power or handling? My brother in law gave me my current Blaster when he bought his DS650 so I'm quite familiar with them. They are very heavy, very big, and pretty damn fast. If the question is a matter of straight away speed, the Blaster isn't going to be even with the DS unless you go with a ported 240. This is where I have to give an enormous amount of credit to the Bombardier tech guys because the 650 doesn't make any more power than 450s or Banshees yet I see them stock for stock beat them quite often(yes switching riders as well). The DS has rather short gearing which enables it to use it's massive torque to pull through the gears so easily until 4th and 5th where 5th gear is quite tall and explains why the DS was the lore of having the highest stock top speed amongst 4 strokes 6-7 years ago. Even so, they are not trail quads and never will be. I'm guessing DS's put out like 37-38hp or thereabouts, but like I said, a lot of torque, and they are quite quick.
A stock Blaster makes around 18-20hp. For a Blaster to reach those areas in terms of power, you will probably get a max of 35ish hp from a Blaster on a stock bore cylinder unless you go extreme and go with drag type porting with a large carb.......which obviously ruins any trails or typical riding. So 35ish hp with a stock bore. If you go with a 240 kit, it's more a matter of WHICH 240 kit. Some 240 kits either have stock Blaster port mapping or an entirely new port map that opens up new power. Point being, adding 40cc in displacement in and of itself doesn't give you much in terms of power....maybe 3hp....which is a nice improvement but if it's on stock port mapping or there are a lot of casting flaws, it's pretty meaningless. HOWEVER, take a Vito's, Airsal, LA Sleeve, CT Racing 240 kit and then have it ported by somebody to clean it up and you are doing a hell of a lot better. CT's kit runs an entirely new port design which is what gives it's gains. They dynoed in at 41hp....granted it was with a fairly large carb to give some nice peak hp numbers at the cost of some bottom end power, but that's pretty peppy right there on a quad that weighs 150lbs less than your DS......and I'm assuming your wife weighs less than you do.

If that it isn't enough for you, you can toss in a +3 stroker crank or +4 stroker(need the cases trenched) and be around 45hp or thereabouts.
Now realize that doesn't come cheap. In fact, I'd pretty much just say go buy a used YFZ or something instead since you will spend more than that on just those mods. Now if you want something that is the inexpensive route with good gains.....2 strokes respond nicely to pipes. Add a good pipe, reeds, Uni filter and you are looking at probably around an 8hp gain if the top end is fresh. If you are losing compression in the top end and need to replace it, I'd really suggest porting the stock cylinder(your choice) and getting a Wiseco Pro-Lite piston....the piston itself won't give you any significant gains other than a few more RPMs since it has less mass....probably won't even notice it. You can get the head milled and rechambered by whoever does the porting as well. With that setup, there you can get in the low-mid 30s on power. It will be a night and day difference in power even if it doesn't beat the DS.
On another note, change the gearing on the Blaster. A stock Blaster with a fresh top end only does around 55mph(if you are ever at those speeds), where as the DS goes what?......probably around 73. A 14 tooth front sprocket will give the Blaster about 5 more mph. Decreasing the rear sprocket size will get you more top speed too as well(at the expense of acceleration mind you). Tire size makes a big difference too....bigger more top speed, smaller more acceleration.
