New engine is started

It's not the stick on carbon, it's the real deal man. It's a pain in the a.. to work with and I'm still working on my process. The cover you see in the pic is what they call skinned. That means the carbon covers the piece you're working with. I took a bunch of pics of my hood as I was doing it. I'll post them today. I can make the covers out of carbon as soon as I build the mold. The cover was my first part and kind of an experiment. Mostly for looks but it does make the part stronger. It's not that hard to do, just takes a lot of time. Once I fugure out all of the shortcuts, I'll post my process and you guys can give it a shot. The carbon is about $50 a yard so you don't want to screw up. Lots and lots of sanding to make the parts look good.

Looks awesome bro.

Also are you talking about this process? Go throught the thread there is the whole process in there somewhere.
Carbon Fiber Look - E2S

No, that's not what I'm doing but it looks cool as hell. What he's doing is more like etching. What I'm doing is like body work. Carbon fibre is a lot like fiber glass that you would use to fix you car. It's much stronger and more expensive. Carbon fibre is used to build NASCAR body parts. It's 3 times stronger than steel ( tensile strength ) and 4 times lighter.

I now about carbon fiber.

So you are building your own carbon fiber pieces?

Meaning you are getting sheets and molding it yourself?

very nice work ken, that stator cover is sweet!!!!

The cover's not done yet. I still have to clear coat it. Should shine like the sun when it's done. I put up a DIY today. I'm hoping other members try this and we all figure out the best way of doing this is. I'm a machinist and engine builder, we need a body Vette guy to come in and tell us the fast way to do this. Seems like it's the same as working with fiber glass.

yea you dont have to tell me about carbon fiber its such a biotch to maintain i never created anything out of it but i also know its rediculously expensive..
