Need clarification for shock upgrade

I've been doing a lot of reading about this, but can't seem to find the detailed info that I need. I'm looking at upgrading the suspension on my blaster with banshee shocks up front and a 400ex rear shock. What years should I be looking for from the other quads? Any year? The newer, the better, I would assume. Also, will both the banshee front shocks and 400ex rear shock just bolt right up? Or will I need the bolts from those quads or need to modify my set up to accept the upgrades? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the banshee shocks will bolt right up no probs, the 400ex willl need some modding to get it to work, but a great upgrade

the 400ex shock is very nice i think, i'm 250lbs and i could tell going threw the trails the first day after i installed it.. very litttle modding needed.

Thanks for the feed back. I've been looking at the 400ex and 250r shocks. I'm a little weary about buying a used shock from a 1986ish quad though. Good thing they are pretty cheap though.

I'VE BEEN TOLD THEY ARE BETTER BECAUSE OF THE REZZ BUT AT THE SAME
TIME IT'S NOT THAT EXPENSIVE TO REBUILD... ALOT CHEAPER THEN AN ELKA OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,

Banshee shocks are simple, but the 400 rear takes a little bit of modding.
you have to drill out the bottom bolt holes to accept the larger diameter, and the top you have to add some washers

Yeah, I've been sifting through all the related threads to see what other people have done. Seems simple enough. Just looking for the simple, wallet-friendly mods while I get more comfortable with the bike. Just picked up a 14 tooth front sprocket for $17 shipped. I've found good deals on the 400ex rear shock on ebay, and the 250r as well. Just letting the auctions run out some more...

heres some pics
where you have to add washers.
i reccomend buying a longer bolt also. just take a bolt off your front shocks and get one about 1/4-1/2 inch longer

Then on the bottom drill out the holes on the 400 shock to fit the stock blaster pin, also your going to have to make a spacer out of some tubing, it was very simple.

JUST WENT TO ACE HARDWARE I TOOK THE BLASTER BOLT AND THE HONDA BOLT


IT WAS ALMOST PERFECT I JUST SHAVED THE INSIDE A LITTLE WITH MY POCKET KNIFE NOT THAT MUCH AT ALL.

WITH SOME WASHERS FOR THE BOTTOM I DIDN'T SPEND MORE THEN 3 DOLLARS

NO, THAT'S WHY I HAD TO GET THE BUSHINGS.


I USED THE STOCK 400EX BOLT AND SLID THE BUSHING INTO THE MOUNT ON THE BLASTER. THIS WAY YOU STILL USE THE SAME BEARING AND SLEEVE
ON THE 400EX SHOCK LOOK AT THE PICKS THE 400EX SHOCK HAS NEEDLE BEARINGS UP TO AND THE BLASTER IS SOLID RUBBER. ALLOWS FOR BETTER
MOTION ETC, ETC. JUST WAY BETTER

Don't wait for the time to run out on ebay... things come up and you'll miss the auction. I've used auctionsniper for several years now, and it's the bomb!!

You can list several items (400 or 250 shocks), add take into account different shipping for each one, and then figure an amount for each shock that is the MAX you want to pay for that item. Put ALL the shock listings in a new "group" and then edit that group to let it know you only want to buy ONE shock, no matter which one it is.

This way, if one shock lists $25 shipping and another only lists $15 shipping, you can even it out on your max price by going $10 higher on that item. Auctionsniper puts in your bid like 2 or 3 seconds before the auction closes, and if it hasn't gone over your max bid for that item, you win. (Just got Banshee shocks today for $33 shipped that way) Once you win any one item in the same group, there is no more bidding, and that group is done. (unless you manually set it because you want to win 2 or 3 items)

Sounds more complicated than it really is. The most importan thing is to make sure your auctionsniper password is the SAME as your ebay password. Otherwise your bids will go in at the last second but not be valid.

The very cool part is you can actually research 10 or 15 items, dump them all into one auctionsniper bidding group, and then check back in a few days for results. If your bids were all too low, do it again. It's amazing some of the killer deals people get just because nobody else bid against them.

I almost always win the auctions that I bid on. You can use your auction sniper all you want but it doesn't do any good when I put my high dollar bid in! muhahaha!
