Ok I am a noob when it comes to stuff like this. So I have a few questions.

1. What all will I need to rebuild a top end? Gaskets and a piston kit?

2. The more you get your top end bored the more it cost? Ex. 0.040 cost less than 0.060.

3. What is a range a shop would charge to bore my top end like 0.040? What have you guys paid in the past?

Thanks for your answers ahead of time and sorry for being such a noob:">

you might also want to check your crank bearings and make sure you didn't do any damage down under too. and the person to talk to would be FLOTEK, WILDCARD AND KENNEDY_POWER for the bore and while you bore it might as well have it ported polished.

the top end kit will run ya about 100 bucks, and always go with the smallest bore possible, and a shop really shouldnt cost more than 100 bucks to bore it out

should be about 65 bucks labour(and thats cdn $) gaskets might cost you 10-20 and a piston will be around 90-110.

all depends on where you get work done and parts.

well that depends on you. do you know how to take off the top end of a 2 stroke engine properly? emphisis on properly, you can do more damage than good, but then again, do it carefully with help and you learn.

if you were to take parts, you would take the shop just the cylinder(not head) and the pistion and the piston rings. they decide what to bore it to, you cant really tell them a number to bore it to.

yeah, you could. and might be wasting a few bores. you could research what size pistons are available to you, take the jug and info to them, tell them you want to bore as little as possible to remove scratches, then have them tell you what size they are going to bore it to and you can order the piston.

I think you are over thinking this...if you are not going to do the work yourself and your going to pay the shop to do it anyways, is just take the bike to a shop and say "hey this needs a top end" then, the people at the shop will take it apart, measure what piston you need for you and then do what they have to do to make it work.

Only problem with having a shop do it is they are going to find 100 different things that you "need to do" to make it run right.

Good luck with your bike. I don't think that newbies should buy bikes that "need work." I bought a bike that needed work and I paid for it. If your a newbie I would say to buy a bike that run good and learn from there.

I am doing it all but the bore. I think I pretty much know whats up now. I can take off the jug and take it to the shop. Ask them to bore and hone it. Buy a piston for the size they bored it to and install. I am not new at working on engines I am in a shop class at school. Just new to someone taking a drill to my stuff =]

Ohh Ifk. I took my bike to a shop and they redid my whooooole motor, and plugged my rear tire, jetted it, and cleaned my airfilter. did I ask for all that?

you did ask them.. get it running.. and they got it running right.. and at the shop give em your piston and cylinder and tell them.. dont bore it if you do not have to, but it will need to be honed.

You can get it bored for like 40 bucks. And whatever it gets bored to then that will be the size of the piston you will need. Not a hard concept. If your not sure
just get it bored because no reason to hone it if you will find it will need to be bored and its not a big price difference. If you dont have the money to do it right the first time then how will you have it the second time??
